A judge in Texas has rejected a county attorney's proposal that would allow
Willie Nelson
to mail in a plea agreement and fine in connection with a November 2010 marijuana arrest. The Country Music Hall of Fame member
was arrested and released on bail after his tour bus was pulled over during a border stop in Sierra Blanca, Texas. A Border
Patrol agent smelled marijuana and confiscated approximately three ounces of the substance. In March, Hudspeth County Attorney
C.R. "Kit" Bramblett announced that Nelson could plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge if he paid a small fine and sang "Blue
Eyes Crying in the Rain" in the courtroom. County Judge Becky Dean-Walker said she would not accept the deal. In June, Bramblett
said the singer had pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and would pay a $500 fine
and $280 in court costs. Late last week, she ruled she will not accept a mailed-in plea, either.
