Funeral services will be held Tuesday (July 12) in Burdine, Ky., for Kenny Baker, the acclaimed fiddler in Bill
Monroe's Blue Grass Boys from 1968 to 1984. He died Friday (July 8) in Nashville at age 85 after suffering a stroke earlier
in the week. The Kentucky native was often introduced by Monroe onstage as "the greatest fiddler in bluegrass music" and inspired
players because of his smooth, "long bow" sound. In addition to his own records, Baker played on numerous bluegrass albums,
including Monroe's Uncle Pen, Tom T. Hall's Magnificent Music
Machine and the Osborne Brothers' Bluegrass Collection.
After leaving the Blue Grass Boys, Baker performed regularly with Dobro player Josh Graves. He returned to Monroe's band in
1994. Monroe died in 1996.
