Ricky Skaggs
The late
Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass, will be honored in Nashville
during an all-star concert featuring
Ricky Skaggs,
the
Del McCoury Band, Roland White and the Nashville Bluegrass Band, among others. The concert commemorating the 100th anniversary
of his birth takes place Sept. 28 at Ingram Hall at Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music. Admission is free, but
tickets are required and may be obtained beginning Friday (Sept. 9) at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the administrative
office at Blair. The concert will be a multimedia look at the evolution of Monroe's life and career. Monroe, whose vocal and
mandolin sound is credited with establishing bluegrass music, wrote numerous songs, including "Blue Moon of Kentucky." He
died in 1996.
