Reba McEntire
Reba McEntire will star in a pilot for a new ABC sitcom titled
Malibu Country.
She made the announcement Friday (Sept. 9) in a message posted on her official website. "I know you've all been asking, and
I can confirm that the rumors are true," she wrote. "We had our meeting yesterday with the folks at ABC, and we now have a
put pilot with ABC! That means we will shoot the pilot next April and, if everything goes like we hope it will, we'll be shooting
a sitcom called
Malibu Country next August!" According to
Variety, the show will be written by Kevin Abbott,
the executive producer on McEntire's previous sitcom,
Reba, which ran for four seasons beginning in 2002.
Variety
describes
Malibu Country as "a multi-camera comedy in which McEntire's character divorces her 'good ol' boy' rock-star
husband after he cheats on her and burns through most of their money. She moves her family from Nashville to the only asset
she has left -- a little house in Malibu." Noting her excitement about the possibility of doing another sitcom, McEntire wrote,
"I miss the
Reba show so much, so it will be great to get back into the TV world again!"
