Trisha Yearwood
's mother, Gwen Yearwood, died Saturday (Oct. 1) in Tifton, Ga., following
a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 73. A teacher who resided in Monticello, Ga., for much of her life, Gwen Yearwood and
daughters Trisha and Beth Yearwood Bernard co-wrote two cookbooks,
Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen: Recipes From
My Family to Yours (published in 2008) and
Home Cooking With Trisha Yearwood: Stories and Recipes to Share with Family
and Friends (released in 2010). According to The Associated Press, her daughters were with her when she died. In lieu
of flowers, family members request that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in funding breast cancer research.
