Charlie Daniels
will celebrate his 75th birthday this week with performances
at the Grand Ole Opry and an appearance during a Southern rock panel discussion at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum
in Nashville. Daniels' birthday is Friday (Oct. 28), and he'll be performing that night in Louisville, Ky. The other two events
take place Saturday (Oct. 29) in Nashville. The panel discussion coincides with the 40th anniversary of
Allman
Brothers Band guitarist Duane Allman's death in a motorcycle accident in Macon, Ga. Daniels, the Allman Brothers and
Lynyrd Skynyrd were among the founders of the Southern rock movement of
the '70s. In addition to Daniels, the panelists during the afternoon session include former Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King,
vocalist Bonnie Bramlett of Delaney & Bonnie and Mike Hyland, former publicist for Capricorn Records, the Allman Brothers'
label during the '70s. Saturday night, Daniels will perform on the Opry's two shows on a bill that also features

Black,
Gretchen Wilson,
Lee
Greenwood and
the Grascals.
