and concert promoter Live Nation have been named in a lawsuit filed in connection
with the stage collapse prior to the duo's scheduled performance at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis on Aug. 13. Seven
people were killed and dozens injured by scaffolding, equipment and other debris when the outdoor stage collapsed after strong
winds hit the midway area. In a lawsuit filed Tuesday (Nov. 22) in Marion County Superior Court in Indianapolis, the families
of four people who died and several victims who were injured claim negligence caused the tragedy. In addition to Sugarland
and Live Nation, the lawsuit was filed against a security company, a stagehands union and other businesses involved with the
concert. The lawsuit seeks damages and attorneys' fees. According to the
Indianapolis Star newspaper, more than 100
victims have already filed tort claim notices with the state. Indiana law prohibits the state from paying more than $5 million
in damages for any single event, but the limit does not extend to Sugarland or the companies who helped produce the concert.
