Mindy McCready's 5-year-old son Zander has been taken into custody by law enforcement
authorities in Arkansas after they found the singer and her child hiding in a closet, WBBH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Fort Myers,
Fla., reported late Friday (Dec. 2). The child is the subject of a custody battle between McCready, 36, and her mother, Gayle
Inge. The singer, who has a lengthy history of substance and domestic abuse problems, allegedly took the child from Florida
earlier this week and returned to Nashville. After missing a Thursday deadline to return him to her mother's home near Fort
Myers, a judge signed an order for authorities to find the child and take him into custody. The WBBH report cites an official
from the Childrens Network of Southwest Florida who says the youngster is safe. The TV station said McCready and the child
were hiding in a closet in Heber Springs, Ark., a community located approximately 70 miles north of Little Rock. Before missing
the Thursday deadline to return Zander to Florida, McCready told The Associated Press it was unlikely that she could make
the trip because she's seven months pregnant with twins.
