Danny Gokey plans to marry model Leyicet
Peralta in late January. He made the announcement Sunday (Dec. 25) on Fox News. After being a contestant during the eighth
season of
American Idol, Gokey signed to 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville in 2009 and released his debut album,
My Best
Days, in 2010. He charted two singles
"My Best
Days Are Ahead of Me" and
"I Will Not Say Goodbye"
in 2010 and another, "Second Hand Heart," in 2011. His first wife, Sofia, died in 2008 of complications from routine surgery
for a congenital heart problem. In her honor, he and her family members created the Sofia's Heart Foundation to assist children
who have been affected by poverty, sickness and broken homes. In a statement posted on the foundation's website, Gokey and
Peralta said, "We are thankful for so many of the blessings God has given us. It is our desire to see homeless children and
families be kept together and lifted back on their feet through the help of Sophia's Heart. We love and appreciate you all."
