Taylor Swift
An 18-year-old cancer patient who was to be
Taylor Swift's date at
Sunday night's (April 1)
ACM Awards in Las
Vegas is hospitalized and unable to make the trip from New Jersey. "Just talked to Kevin McGuire," Swift tweeted Saturday
afternoon. "He's not well enough to join me at the ACMs. Please keep him in your thoughts. I'll make it up to you, Kevin!"
McGuire, a high school senior from Stratford, N.J., gained the singer's attention earlier this year when his sister launched
a Facebook page titled "Taylor Swift Take Kevin McGuire to the Prom." Although Swift was unable to attend McGuire's prom in
New Jersey, she responded on the page, "Kevin, I'm so sorry, but I won't be able to make it to your prom," the singer wrote.
"But I was wondering, the ACMs are coming up. ... Would you be my date? Love, Taylor." Earlier this week, McGuire underwent
five days of chemotherapy and radiation. However, while preparing to leave for the trip to Las Vegas, McGuire had a 103-degree
fever and was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. However, he remains optimistic and in good spirits after being
forced to cancel the date. His mother Vicki McGuire told
USA Today, "He said to me, 'Well, how many people get to say
they turned down Taylor Swift?'"
