Sonia Leigh
Zac Brown feels strongly about singer-songwriter
Sonia
Leigh, one of the artists featured on his Southern Ground record label. In fact, he says there's "no end to her depth
as a songwriter and as a performer." Leigh joins labelmates
Blackberry Smoke on CMT's
exclusive series,
Southern Ground Live Presented by Landshark
where she showcases tunes from her debut album,
1978 December. Her lively set features "Ain't Dead Yet," "Bar" and
a feisty medley of "If You Won't Tell/Ribbon of Red." Leaving home at 17 to follow her musical dream, Leigh paid her part
of the rent with the only money she had left in her pocket. Persistence and continual performances paid off as she became
quick friends with Zac Brown, who immediately took a liking to her sound. In fact, Leigh was one of the first artists signed
to his label. "I'm a huge Sonia Leigh fan," he says, "and pretty soon a lot of other people are going to be, as well."
