A memorial service for Rollin "Oscar" Sullivan, a Grand Ole Opry member for 38 years in the comedy duo of Lonzo & Oscar, will be held Tuesday (Sept. 11) in Goodlettsville, Tenn. He died Friday (Sept. 7) in Madison, Tenn., at age 93. Sullivan and his brother Johnny performed a radio show in Jackson, Tenn., in the late 1930s and began working with Lloyd George as sidemen in Eddy Arnold's band in 1945. Rollin Sullivan, an accomplished mandolinist, and Lloyd George billed themselves as Lonzo & Oscar after parting ways with Arnold. They became Opry members in 1947 and scored a Top 5 country hit, "I'm My Own Grandpa," the following year. After George left the duo in 1950 to pursue a solo career, the role of Lonzo was filled by Johnny Sullivan (who died in 1967) and later by Dave Hooten. Lonzo & Oscar retired from the Opry in 1985.
