Singer-songwriter
JD Souther, whose songs include several of the
Eagles'
biggest hits, has been selected for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. A prime figure in the Southern California
country-rock movement of the '70s, Souther now resides in Nashville and has gained a wider audience from his acting role as
songwriter-producer Watty White on the hit TV series
Nashville. His songwriting credits include the Eagles' "Heartache
Tonight," "New Kid in Town" and "Best of My Love," Don Henley's "The Heart of the Matter" and
Linda
Ronstadt's "Faithless Love," "Simple Man, Simple Dream" and "Prisoner in Disguise." Souther also had a major solo hit
with "You're Only Lonely" and a collaboration with James Taylor on "Her Town, Too." This year's other Songwriters Hall of
Fame inductees include Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry and Foreigner's Mick Jones and Lou Gramm, along with British
songwriter Tony Hatch (Petula Clark's "Downtown," Chris Montez's "Call Me" and the Searchers' "Sugar and Spice") and Holly
Knight (Tina Turner's "Better Be Good to Me," Pat Benatar's "Love Is a Battlefield" and Heart's "Never"). The induction ceremony
takes place June 13 in New York City.
