On CMT: About the Series

about the series

Each weekend, thousands of stock car drivers battle each other to reach their ultimate dream of becoming a NASCAR driver. In The Drive, cameras follow seven minor league drivers -- two women and five men -- as they risk their money, their families and their lives for the opportunity to compete in America’s most watched sport.

The Drive puts you behind the wheel and inside the lives of young and hungry unknown drivers willing to give up everything to climb through the ranks of racing’s farm leagues. NASCAR Nextel Cup is the biggest spectator sport in the nation, yet it has the least number of opportunities for its competitors. Compared to other sports with hundreds or even thousands of athletes, only 43 drivers touch the steering wheel of a Nextel Cup car each week. For many, trying to get to the upper levels of NASCAR is an uphill and perilous battle. In a series of eight one-hour episodes, The Drive takes the millions of NASCAR fans closer to the heart of racing than ever before through the lives of a few determined men -- and women -- chasing their ultimate dreams, and paying costly dues for their one shot.

The Drive features drivers from across the country: David Stover from Tulsa, Oklahoma; Davin Scites from Wayne, West Virginia; Michael Ritch of High Point, North Carolina; Michelle Theriault of Bristol, Connecticut; Mike Herman, Jr. of Kannapolis, North Carolina; Sarah McCune from Perrysburg, Ohio; and Zach Niessner from Royal City, Washington.
