about the episode

Lisa finds herself increasingly ostracized when she hosts a boat party for the Pileks' friends and family; meanwhile, Samantha tries to expose Lisa's kids to new experiences.

When Samantha wakes up, she decides to take Katlin out for some exercise. Meanwhile, at the Pilek house, Katie sings a song. Lisa offers some advice, but her coaching only irritates Jurek. Lisa thinks that Katie, who has aspirations of being a singer, and Zach, who wants to be a professional baseball player, are going to be in for a big surprise when they enter the real world. Samantha takes Katlin shopping for clothes. Samantha encourages Katlin to project a more feminine side. Katlin thinks Samantha is the nicest person she's ever met. Meanwhile Lisa grows increasingly bored when no one in the family pays any attention to her. She hangs out with some neighbors; including a woman named Normi, who finds some of Lisa's comments about the neighborhood and her profession (Lisa's a dental hygienist) somewhat odd.

Eric tells Samantha he wants to be a chef when he grows up. Samantha decides to take him to a nice restaurant to expose him to something new. The chef allows Eric to hang out in the kitchen. The experience proves to be an exciting one for Eric, and later he and Samantha enjoy the meal Eric helped the chef prepare. Meanwhile Lisa takes Zach to a batting cage, where he practices his swing. Lisa doesn't think Zach has much passion for the game. She gives him a great deal of encouragement, but this makes Zach think she's being mean to him. Lisa tells Zach not to take her comments personally. It comes time for each mother to host a party. Lisa holds her party aboard a cruise boat. She immediately feels ignored when Jurek fails to introduce her to anyone. Meanwhile, at the Bowers house, guests begin arriving. One of the neighbors, Robyn, comments that there isn't as much yelling and screaming coming from the house now that Lisa is away. Aboard the cruise boat, Jurek's family and friends make fun of Lisa when they find out she's a dental hygienist. One of the guests, Joele, thinks Lisa is jealous of their looks and money.

After the cruise, Lisa begins to miss her family and retires to her room, where she starts to cry. Jurek checks on Lisa. Lisa tells him she's just tired. Jurek comments that he just wants his wife back. The next morning Lisa wakes up feeling melancholy. She decides it's time to let Jurek know how she feels. She points out that during the cruise, Jurek asked everyone if they had something to drink, but failed to ask her. Jurek apologizes to Lisa for making her feel bad. Meanwhile Craig tells his family that it's time for Samantha to leave. Eric reacts with surprise and disappointment. Katlin lets her hair down so Samantha can see what she looks like. Katlin gives Eric a small punch, but he overreacts and bellows as if having been hit much harder. Samantha and the Bowers say their goodbyes. Lisa tries to rally Eric and Katie for their final meal together, but a cloud hangs over the proceedings.

On the morning of their departures, Samantha says her final goodbyes to the kids, who are still in their beds. Meanwhile Lisa notes that no one in the Pilek family made an effort to see her off; including Jurek, who had promised to wake up early and say goodbye. It comes time for Samantha and Lisa to figure out how the $50,000 is to be distributed to the families. They meet to discuss their experiences. Lisa tells Samantha she made Zach wash a load of laundry. Samantha says Zach normally doesn't do laundry. Samantha describes giving Eric a kiss goodbye, and how Eric responded with an "I love you." Samantha detects a bit of jealousy. Lisa tells Samantha that Jurek wasn't around very much because of work commitments. Samantha's experience was more pleasant. Samantha and Lisa say goodbye to each other, board airplanes, and fly back home. When Lisa arrives, her family bombards her with greetings. At the Pilek house, Samantha asks how the week went, and Jurek growls. The family tells Samantha that no one - not even the neighbors - liked Lisa. Lisa and Samantha tell the families about the big twist: it's up to them to determine how the $50,000 is to be allocated to their host families.

Craig becomes visibly nervous when he hears the news. Lisa then reads Samantha's letter aloud. Samantha gives the Bowers $3,500 to purchase a large screen television and surround theater; Katlin and Eric receive $5,000 each; the family is given money for a trip to Cancun, Mexico; $3,000 for a sleeper sofa; $15,000 for a deck; and $5,000 for a Jacuzzi. Craig is relieved that the family is getting a deck and Jacuzzi. At the end of the letter, Samantha includes some kind words for Eric, comparing him to the lion in The Wizard of Oz. Meanwhile Samantha reads Lisa's letter. Lisa wants the family to spend more time doing things together. She allocates $10,000 for Katie's orthodontics; $15,000 for family-room furniture; $10,000 for a Jacuzzi; and $5,000 for a pool slide. Jurek is less than pleased with the outcome.

As the Bowers enjoy a meal, Craig grows irritable and tells Lisa to shut up. Things are back to normal.
