A tidy Atlanta mother who performs domestic-service work trades places with a messy mother from Boston. Veronica Thibodeaux, who lives in the outskirts of Atlanta and performs domestic-service work, is an independent woman who likes things her own way, especially around the house. Her husband, Alvin, who works as a custodian, usually lets Veronica have her own way. Veronica says Alvin is a good husband. She thinks her kids have a much better life than she did when she was young. Meanwhile Diane Famiglietti, who lives in Boston and works as an insurance broker, admits that although she loves her family, she's a terrible housekeeper. She describes her family as being very unorthodox, but says everyone does things together. Her husband, Richard, who works as a science teacher, complains that the house his family lives in is too small. The family shares one bathroom. Veronica thinks her daughter, Brittney, will be very happy when the mother swap begins. Brittney admits she won't miss her mother. Veronica tells her daughter that the new mother will also be strict. Meanwhile Diane says that when she experienced a heart attack four years earlier, it changed her life. She no longer takes her family for granted. Her son, Marc, describes the changes that took place since Diane's heart attack. Richard says he doesn't like being away from his wife. On the morning of the mother swap, Diane says a tearful goodbye to her family. Veronica says no one in her family is going to miss her. Brittney says she's excited about her mother's departure. Even Veronica says she won't miss her own family. Diane and Veronica board airplanes and head for their respective destinations. After much anticipation, Veronica finds Richard at the airport. They hit it off almost immediately. Meanwhile Diane spots Alvin holding a card with her name on it. She walks up to him and gives him a big hug. As Alvin drives Diane to his family's home, Diane asks questions about the neighborhood where he lives. Alvin, who is African-American, senses that Diane doesn't have much experience being around black people. When Diane enters the Thibodeaux house, she reacts to the sight of their bird. Diane says she's petrified of birds. Diane then meets Alvin's children, Brittney and A.J. She asks the kids if they're shocked she's white. Meanwhile Richard introduces Veronica to her family; including his daughter Arianna, and sons Justin and Cody. The children are a little taken aback when they realize their new mother is African-American. Later Richard gives Veronica a tour of the house. Veronica doesn't know how she's going to survive in a house with one bathroom. She's repulsed by the dirty conditions in the house. On their first night at their new house, Veronica and Diane are informed they are going to decide how the $50,000 in prize money is going to be awarded to their surrogate family. Veronica decides to handle her new family just like she deals with her own kids. The Famigliettis object to being awoken at an early hour. Meanwhile Alvin wakes up Diane, assuming she's going to cook the family breakfast just like Veronica does. The kids aren't pleased when Diane burns the bacon. Later Veronica takes Arianna to a salon to get her hair done. Arianna doesn't hit it off with Veronica, especially after Veronica says she's lazy. Later the Famigliettis take Veronica on a deep-sea fishing trip. Veronica, who had never gone fishing on a boat before, doesn't enjoy the experience. She can't wait to get back to shore. Meanwhile Diane decides to take the Thibodeaux family on a picnic. It quickly turns into a disaster when flies swarm the picnic table. Diane isn't happy when Alvin pulls out a deck of cards. Diane injects some life into the proceedings when she brings out some water guns. Back on the fishing boat, Veronica tries to survive the trip, and begins to feel seasick and cold. Veronica asks that the boat to be turned around. Later, when they reach shore, the kids decide to roast marshmallows. Diane decides to take Brittney to a batting cage. Brittney begins to pout. Diane then takes Brittney to some bumper boats, but Brittney hates them as well, especially when she gets her hair wet. Diane thinks she's spoiled. Richard shows Veronica how to make real home-style Italian gravy. Veronica, who doesn't like to cook, doesn't have a good time. Diane takes the Thibodeaux family out to eat. During the meal, A.J. lists a bunch of things he wants. This takes Diane by surprise. She thinks he's spoiled, just like his sister. Diane tells A.J. and Brittney how hard it was for her family when she had her heart attack, especially financially. She hopes she made her point: the kids should be appreciative of everything they have in life. Richard gathers his family and Veronica together. He tells Veronica that his relatives and friends will be coming to the house the following day. Veronica, in turn, says that everyone will have to pitch together and clean the entire house. The kids aren't pleased. Veronica says she's the queen, and everyone will have to deal with it.

After throwing a party for friends and relatives of their host family, Diane and Veronica decide how to allocate $50,000 in prize money. Diane has noticed that the Thibodeuxs rarely do things together as a family. She enlists Brittney's help in planning an upcoming party for the Thibodeuxs' relatives and friends. She wants to keep some of the planning a secret from everyone else. Brittney agrees to help keep the secret. Meanwhile Veronica tells the Famigliette family about their duties in cleaning up the house. Arianna says she can't clean a room because she's allergic to dust. Veronica thinks Arianna is just being lazy. Veronica and Richard chastise Cody when he mouths back during the conversation. Marc, meanwhile, is assigned to clean up the bathroom. Veronica then concentrates on Arianna's room, which is covered in a layer of dust. Veronica can't believe how dusty the room is, especially since Arianna is an allergy sufferer. Meanwhile Diane takes Brittney to the store to shop for the party. Brittney is embarrassed by Diane's behavior. During the shopping spree, Diane sprays Cool Whip directly into Brittney's mouth. They both laugh. Diane feels she has finally started to bond with Brittney. Diane admits she's nervous about the party because the Thibodeuxs don't have any white friends. She thinks everyone at the party will either love her or hate her. Frenchella, Alvin's sister-in-law, remarks that Diane never stops talking, and her Boston accent makes it even more difficult to decipher what she's saying. Diane gets uncomfortable when Alvin takes out a deck of cards. She says everyone is going to participate in games, such as a balloon toss, an egg toss, and a donut-eating contest. Everyone enjoys themselves. Meanwhile, back at the Famigliette house, Veronica gets uncomfortable being around the party guests. Someone remarks that "Diane" looks a little different. Veronica takes it in stride, and begins to warm up to the relatives and friends at the party. It makes her realize she must spend more time with her own kids. As they have their last meal together, Alvin and Diane share a warm hug. Alvin remarks how much his family loves Diane. A.J. remarks that he doesn't miss his mother at all. Diane says that she's come to think of A.J. as her other son, and she feels as though she now has family in Atlanta. Later Brittney goes to Diane's room and tells her she had a wonderful time during Diane's stay. Diane begins to cry as she talks about Brittney. It comes time for Diane and Veronica to decide how the $50,000 will be spent. They write down their instructions and seal them in an envelope. When the time comes to leave for the airport, Diane bids the Thibodeuxs a quick goodbye. Meanwhile Veronica says goodbye to the Famiglietti family and is driven to the airport. Diane and Veronica meet for the very first time. They share a warm hug and remark how much they love each other's families. Diane tells Veronica how much Brittney loves her. Diane also says that Veronica needs to spend more time with her family. Eventually Diane and Veronica exchange envelopes and hug. When Diane arrives home in Boston, her family greets her warmly. Arianna remarks how much more she appreciates her mother since the swapping. Back in Atlanta the Thibodeuxs remark they doubt their mother has changed very much since participating in the experiment. Diane tells her family about the twist: she and Veronica decided how the $50,000 is to be spent. This comes as a shock to everyone. Diane opens the envelope and reads Veronica's note. Marc is given $8,000 to buy a car. Justin is given $1,500 to buy a go-cart. Cody is given $1,000 to buy a PlayStation. Arianna receives $8,000 to purchase a car. The rest of the money is to be spent on remodeling the bathroom and a trip to Florida. Meanwhile Veronica tells her family about the twist. She opens Diane's note, but has a difficult time reading it. It includes money for an SUV, a swimming pool, a flat-screen television, a wedding set, a gambling spree, spending cash for Brittney so she can go shopping with her mother, and money for A.J.'s college tuition. Veronica remarks that she's not happy with Diane's decisions.

A homemaker from Orange County, California, swaps places with the wife of a hunter from rural Tennessee. Colleen Verruto, a mother and homemaker, loves her life in Orange County, California. She's married to Ronnie Verruto, who manufactures DC power converters for the RV industry. He works constantly. Ronnie says he hasn't slept with his wife for over three years, and often sleeps on the floor in his office. Ronnie is committed to keeping his family happy, no matter what it takes. Colleen and Ronnie have four children: twelve-year-old RJ; eleven-year-old Alexis; ten-year-old Anthony; and six-year-old Vinnie. Vinnie is a handful all by himself, and sometimes takes to climbing inside the clothes dryer or belching out loud just for the fun of it. Meanwhile Chrystal Norton lives with her family on a farm in Springfield, Tennessee. Her husband, David, doesn't have a job. He provides for his family by going hunting in the woods. Fifteen-year-old Nikki Norton is a tomboy who likes to hunt and ride her motorcycle. The time comes for Colleen and Chrystal to say goodbye to their families. Chrystal's son Ben sneaks his stuffed animal, Ruff Ruff, into his mother's suitcase so she won't be lonely on the journey. Ronnie greets Chrystal at the Long Beach airport, and presents her with a bouquet of flowers. When Chrystal arrives at Ronnie's house, she's impressed with what she sees. When she opens her suitcase she finds Ruff Ruff, and is incredibly moved. Meanwhile, in Tennessee, David awaits for Colleen's arrival. He hopes that she's a hunter. When they finally do meet, David remarks that Colleen has "the Barbie look." When Colleen enters David's house, she's taken aback by the stuffed animal heads covering the walls, and remarks that she feels like she's in Little House on the Prairie. Colleen is pleasantly surprised when she discovers that David's kids are polite and well behaved. Back in Orange County, Chrystal drives the kids to school, unsure of where she's going and not getting any help from Vinnie, who gives her the wrong directions. David gives Colleen a tour of an old log cabin that's on the property. Colleen has a difficult time understanding what David is talking about when he shows her where the different rooms of the house are. In Orange County Colleen's sister and mother drop by the house. Chrystal remarks that the family seems very interested in "the best of the best" when it comes to material things. The Verruto kids love Chrystal's chicken and dumplings. Chrystal notes that Ronnie doesn't seem to spend enough time with the kids. Colleen and Chrystal are told that each of them must decide how the $50,000 is to be spent on the other mother's family. Colleen remarks that it doesn't seem fair. David decides to take Colleen for a hunting trip, but she decides to remain on the farm. Back in Orange County Chrystal decides to take the family on a trip to the beach. Ronnie goes along on the trip, but says it's difficult for him to get away because he's running a business. Chrystal again notes that Ronnie doesn't have much of a rapport with his kids. She thinks he needs to relax. Colleen sits in on Ben's fiddle lessons, but has a hard time getting through the session, as Ben is just learning how to play. On the drive home Nikki notes that her brother is a "momma's boy," and isn't doing well without Chrystal. David checks up on Ben, who's inside his bedroom crying. He says he misses his mother. When the kids grow rowdy, Chrystal has a talk with Ronnie, who says Colleen doesn't like it when he's strict or raises his voice. Ronnie says his company is in a tailspin and he's trying to save it. Ronnie lists a few of the expenses he faces every month. He says money is his first priority. He starts to cry.

[TV-PG]

MEET YOUR NEW MOMMY In Orange County, Calif., Chrystal hosts a party for the Verrutos' friends and relatives; and in Tennessee Colleen helps Nikki prepare for a homecoming parade. Colleen Verruto decides there are a few things she needs to change in the Norton family. She tells the children they need to obey her when she gives them chore to do. The kids aren't thrilled with Colleen or her attempt to take command of the family. Meanwhile, in Orange County, Alexis has a tough time rousting Vinny from bed. Chrystal is amazed that Ronnie doesn't take the time to deal with the situation. Chrystal tells Vinny he has to go to bed early that night, and that his father has to enforce her decision. Nikki tells Colleen that she's going to be on the float in the upcoming homecoming parade. Colleen wants to help her prepare. She takes Nikki to a salon to get her nails and hair done. Nikki isn't thrilled about the idea, as she's more interested in being a simple country girl. Later Colleen takes Nikki shopping for new clothes. On the ride home, Nikki tells Colleen the new look makes her feel uncomfortable. Chrystal talks to Ronnie about Vinny and going to bed. Chrystal gets Ronnie to commit to sending Vinny to bed at 9:30. Nikki gets a bad feeling about being in the homecoming parade because she's convinced something's going to go wrong. Before the parade starts Colleen does some last-minute tweaking. Again, Nikki isn't comfortable wearing more make-up. As Nikki passes by in the parade, Colleen calls to her. Nikki chooses to ignore her. Later family members come to the house for a party. Colleen feels embarrassed when she's not ready to greet the guests. She feels like she's unprepared and not being a good hostess. She's happy when Nikki chooses to wear a poncho she bought for her at the clothing store. Colleen calms down enough to greet her guests. Later Ronnie plays his guitar and sings a song he wrote for Chrystal. Colleen and the party guests love the song. Meanwhile, in Orange County, Chrystal grows apprehensive about her host-family's get together. She ends up doing fine, and Ronnie is eventually able to pull himself away from work long enough to attend the party. The next day Ronnie receives word that an investor has agreed to put up money that will save his business. Ronnie is overjoyed. He starts to cry. Chrystal tells the kids they're going to make a quilt for their mother as a welcome-home present. Each of the kids has to sacrifice something to put in the quilt. The time comes for Chrystal and Colleen to decide how the $50,000 is to be spent. They write down their thoughts, and place the letters in sealed envelopes. The next morning Colleen gives Nikki, Ben, and David a final hug goodbye. Meanwhile Colleen says goodbye to Ronnie and the kids. Ronnie thanks Colleen for all her help. Colleen and Chrystal meet for the first time. They discuss their experiences, having spent a week with each other's families. Chrystal tells Colleen that Ronnie promised to fix a lot of problems the family has been dealing with. Chrystal says Colleen's family is anxious to have her back. Chrystal and Colleen exchange letters and head back home. When Chrystal pulls up in the taxi, she bursts into tears and hugs her family. She tells Ben that if it weren't for his stuffed animal, Ruff Ruff, she never would have made it through the week. Meanwhile, in California, Ronnie and the kids greet Colleen. They show her the quilt Chrystal had the family make. Chrystal and Colleen tell their families about the twist: they decide how the $50,000 in prize money gets spent. Colleen reads Chrystal's letter first. RJ, Anthony, Alexis, and Vinny all get $1000 in cash to spend. Ronnie and Colleen get $6,000 for a vacation. The remainder is to be spent on bills or whatever will bring the family together. Colleen can't believe Chrystal set aside money for her kids, who have everything. She worries she made a mistake with Chrystal's kids, as she didn't give them enough money to spend. Chrystal reads Colleen's letter aloud. She sets aside $5,000 to be donated to the family's church. She allocates $12,000 to fixing up the house; $3,500 to fixing their cars; $500 for Dave to take Chrystal out on dates over the course of a year; and a few dollars allowance per week to go to Nikki and Ben. The rest of the money can be spent as the Nortons choose. Chrystal and Dave decide to give their kids a thousand dollars each. Later Ronnie says thanks to Chrystal, but says it wasn't the money that mattered most to him.

Trading Spouses  Trading Spouses Ep 113 - Doverspike/Egly
[TV-PG]

A conservative born-again Christian from California trades places with a Jewish liberal from Maryland. Ann Marie Doverspike, a homemaker/bible study teacher, lives with her family in Brea, Calif. Ann Marie is a conservative Christian and staunch Republican. Her husband Dave works as a telecom manager. He sums up his life as "the fifties family living in the new millennium." He and Ann Marie decided to live a very traditional life: he's the breadwinner and she's the stay-at-home mom. Their daughter Jessica wears a purity ring, a promise to God and her parents that she won't have sex until she gets married. In Poolesville, Maryland, Stephanie Egly, a Jewish liberal, works as a realty office manager. She has a husband, John, four children - Jessica, Sidney, Samantha, and Shaina - and a variety of animals living on her farm. John describes his wife as independent and opinionated. Ann Marie says a tearful goodbye to her family. She hopes that she might be able to impart some goodness on her host family. Back in Maryland, Stephanie's kids are still asleep when she boards a taxi for the airport. When Ann Marie arrives in Maryland, John is there to greet her. He's very pleased when Ann Marie turns out to be good-looking. John and his kids immediately notice how perky Ann Marie is in comparison to Stephanie. Meanwhile Dave picks Stephanie up when she lands in California. Dave drives her to his house, where Stephanie meets his daughters, Jessica and Elizabeth. Stephanie doesn't like pink walls in the house. Dave invites her to participate in a bible-study class, but Stephanie isn't comfortable with the idea. The next morning Stephanie observes as teenagers show up at the house for a pancake breakfast and prayers. Stephanie thinks it's all very strange. Later, during the bible-study class, Stephanie decides to observe rather than participate. About twenty-seven minutes into the class, she decides to leave. When she returns to the Doverspike house, she asks Dave about the location of the nearest synagogue. Dave doesn't know off the top of his head, but he suggests she attend church with him, and he'll attend synagogue with her. Stephanie doesn't think it's a good idea. Back in Maryland, Ann Marie waits for the family to wake up. She eventually decides to wake them up on her own. She enters the kids' bedroom and starts singing to them. The time comes for Stephanie and Ann Marie to learn the show's twist: Each decides how the $50,000 prize money is to be spent on the other family. Ann Marie tells John about her beliefs regarding sex, purity, and abstinence. John decides to take Ann Marie on a trip to Washington, D.C. Ann Marie goes on a shopping spree to find Bush\Cheney merchandise to bring home with her. The Eglys, who are Democrats, aren't thrilled. Meanwhile Dave takes Stephanie to Reilly's Farm, where actors dress up in period clothes from the 1800s. It isn't Stephanie's idea of fun, but she plays along so she doesn't appear rude. Ann Marie decides to speak to the Egly children when they won't stop bickering. Shaina doesn't appreciate her comments on the situation. Ann Marie, on the other hand, thinks her presence has had a positive effect on the family, but she's more than ready to go home. Stephanie hosts a party for the Doverspikes' family and friends. She makes a variety of traditional Jewish dishes for them to eat. Dave doesn't react well having so many people inside the house. Meanwhile Ann Marie concludes the family isn't interested in positive thinking. She begins to cry. The time comes for the mothers to say goodbye to their host families. Ann Marie is disappointed when no one is around to see her off. Later Stephanie and Ann Marie meet for the first time. Stephanie tells Ann Marie she had a wonderful time with her family, which is exactly what Stephanie wanted to hear. Stephanie and Ann exchange envelopes and fly back home. Stephanie and Ann Marie are overjoyed to be home. They describe their experiences living with a family from a different faith. and then reveal the show's twist. Stephanie reads aloud the letter Ann Marie drafted. Ann Marie gives each child $500 in spending money. Additional money is allocated to a new stove, a trip to Hawaii, a trip to California, the children's education, and spending money to be used however Stephanie and Dave see fit. The Eglys are very pleased with the outcome. Ann Marie reads Stephanie's letter aloud. Money is allocated for a new car, home improvements, and a trip to Europe. Ann Marie is surprised when Stephanie doesn't allocate money for the kids' education.

Trading Spouses  Trading Spouses Ep 122 - O'Brien/Shackelford
[TV-PG]

A musical mother who travels the country in a recreational vehicle trades places with a well-to-do real-estate agent whose daughter likes to sing. Janette O'Brien and her family travel some 25,000 miles a year in a recreational vehicle. Along with her husband Dan, and two children - fourteen-year-old Kyle and eleven-year-old Maura - Janette performs in a family band, entertaining audiences throughout the year. Janette loves being able to spend so much time with her kids, who are home-schooled. Both Janette and Dan are former teachers. Janette admits that working and living in a recreational vehicle presents its challenges, but those challenges, she feels, makes her family even stronger. In Smithfield, Virginia, Michelle Shackelford, a real-estate agent, lives in a large brick house with her new husband Craig, and their three daughters: seventeen-year-old Tasha; ten-year-old Devin; and seven-year-old Holly. Michelle says everyone in her family is a Republican. What Michelle hates more than anything else is being bored. The time comes for Janette and Michelle to say goodbye to their families. Both women are somewhat nervous to meet their new "husbands" at the airport. Michelle puts on her best poker face when she sees the recreational vehicle. Upon seeing Michelle for the first time, Maura remarks that she's really happy to see that her new "mother" isn't obese or anorexic. Janette admits feeling out of her element when she sees the Shackelfords' large house. Meanwhile the O'Briens give Michelle a quick tour of their home-on-wheels. When Janette wakes up the next morning, she reacts with surprise when Craig doesn't help his daughters prepare lunches for school. Meanwhile Michelle adjusts to living in such a small space with so many other people. Janette tells the Shackelfords she'd like to have a talent show so she can get to know everyone a little better. Craig isn't very enthusiastic about the idea. When it comes Janette's time to sing, she can't remember all the lyrics. Tasha, however, sings an entire song, and has a pleasant voice. Janette believes Craig should have been more supportive of Tasha's singing efforts. Michelle helps Dan navigate as he drives the RV toward the family's next concert date. The constant traveling begins to take its toll. Meanwhile Janette decides to take Craig out for something to eat so she can get to know him a little better. The conversation does not go well. Craig tells Janette she's only seen a snapshot of how the family functions, and shouldn't judge him based on his interaction with Tasha as she sang. Craig asks Janette if she's gotten anything out of interacting with his family. Janette says she'd love to have a dog (the Shackelfords have two). Dan asks Michelle to sing with their band. Michelle says she's a horrible singer and isn't comfortable with the idea. She nonetheless accompanies the group onto the stage. The crowd gives the family a standing ovation. Michelle gets caught up in the enthusiasm. Craig decides to host a party so Janette can meet his friends and family. At first it's very awkward for Janette, because Craig doesn't make an effort to introduce her to people. Janette announces that Tasha is going to sing for the party guests. Tasha belts out a song that captivates the group. When she finishes, everyone cheers. Janette feels as if she's made a difference. It comes time for Janette and Michelle to say goodbye to their host families. Later Janette and Michelle meet for the first time. Michelle tells Janette her husband misses her terribly, and has a very gifted family. Michelle's enthusiasm catches Janette somewhat off guard, as Janette was prepared to tell Michelle about things in her family that need attention. Janette tells Michelle that Craig could be a better parent by paying more attention to the children. Michelle admits that living with the O'Briens was a positive experience, and has shown her how to be a better mother. Michelle and Janette exchange letters explaining how the $50,000 in prize money is to be spent. When Michelle returns home, the girls are anxious to show her some of the things they learned from Janette. Janette informs her family about the show's twist: Michelle got to choose how the money gets divvied up. Michelle allocates money for Kyle to attend Disney's Art and Cartoon School, money for Maura to attend NASA's Astronaut Space Camp, money for Janette and Dan to go on vacation, and the rest to be spent as they choose. Michelle reads Janette's letter aloud. Janette allocates money for Tasha to buy a new guitar, money for a trip in a recreational vehicle, a large chunk of money to pay off outstanding credit-card debt, and money to attend a parenting seminar. Everyone is very pleased with the outcome. The O'Briens enjoy playing some music.

Trading Spouses  Trading Spouses Ep 114 - Loupe/Gates
[TV-PG]

An animal-rights activist from San Diego trades places with a Cajun swamp tour owner from Louisiana. Diana Tregle operates a swamp tour in Thibodeaux, Louisiana. She lives with her husband, Lloyd "Diego" Loupe, and her eight-year-old son, Zamariah "ZZ" Loupe. The family lives with a menagerie of snakes and alligators. Diana worries about the mother she's swapping families with, because she knows Zamariah can be a handful. Diana predicts her son will cry before she returns home. Meanwhile, in San Diego, California, Barbara Gates, a mother, homemaker, and animal-rights activist, keeps a vegan household. She and her family try to abstain from hurting any animals. She lives with her husband Jim, and their children: ten-year-old son, Jack; and daughter Lucy, age eight. The time comes for both mothers to head for the airport. Barbara remarks that no one in the family bothered to get up and say goodbye. She jokingly hopes that whoever takes her place is ugly. Meanwhile Diego says goodbye to Diana before she drives off in a taxi. Jim meets Diana at the airport and helps her with her luggage. Diana learns that vegans not only don't eat meat, they don't eat any dairy products, either. When Diana sees the Gates house for the first time, she's very impressed. Meanwhile, in Louisiana, Diego greets Barbara as she exits the airplane. Barbara is a little taken aback when she sees the Loupe house. She compares the sprawling structure to a museum. ZZ says that every chance he gets, he's going fishing and not returning until midnight. Diana decides to give the Gates children some mounted alligator heads as gifts. When Jim sees the heads, he realizes it's going to be a tough week for Barbara. Meanwhile ZZ takes Barbara behind the house and shows her the alligators that live nearby. Barbara isn't prepared for the sight of hundreds of alligator skulls, and compares the collection to a mass grave. When Barbara wakes up the next morning, she decides to do a little exploring. She disapproves of the conditions the family's animals live in. Later she tries rousting ZZ, but has a difficult time getting him out of bed. Barbara gives Diego a fruit smoothie. Diego claims he likes the taste, but in reality he doesn't care for it. Diego takes Barbara for a boat ride through the swamp. Barbara doesn't like it when Diego talks about hunting animals. Afterward Diego takes Barbara and ZZ to a seafood restaurant that specializes in Cajun cuisine. Barbara waits until they get to the restaurant to reveal that she's a vegan. She decides Diego and ZZ aren't eating right, so she insists they eat some vegetables and stop drinking so much soda. Meanwhile, back in California, Diana offers the Gates family some pie for breakfast. No one is interested. Barbara and Diana are informed of the show's twist: they must decide how the $50,000 prize money is to be spent on the other family. Barbara tells ZZ she wants him to go an entire day without drinking any soda. Later Diego's friends and family gather to meet Barbara. Barbara becomes even more aware of everyone's poor diet. So she decides to educate them on the benefits of being a vegan. Meanwhile ZZ sneaks some soda when Barbara isn't looking. In San Diego Diana attends a vegan potluck dinner. Diana is surprised by the large turnout of women, all of whom are vegans and friends of Barbara. Diana presents the women with some presents: voodoo dolls, t-shirts, and alligator heads. The women are taken aback by the sight of the alligator heads. Diana explains that Louisiana has a controlled harvest to deal with the overpopulation of alligators. She says she's only recycling the heads. Diana decides to take the alligator heads back with her. Diego takes Barbara to the French quarter in New Orleans. As they walk through the shops, Barbara keeps after ZZ, telling him how to behave. When ZZ bumps into a passerby, Barbara insists that ZZ apologize. Diego thinks Barbara is overreaching. ZZ, meanwhile, begins to miss his real mother. In San Diego Diana grows tired of constantly eating vegetables. She tries playing along so she won't appear rude. Jim tells Diana they're going to have a party for his friends and relatives. Diana wants to cook gumbo for the party. Jim thinks it's a bad idea. Barbara has a long chat with ZZ about his behavior. Barbara tells ZZ that if he continues to misbehave, there are going to be consequences. ZZ tells Barbara, "gators don't sweat." Later the boy tells Barbara, "you're fired."

Trading Spouses  Trading Spouses Ep 115 - Loupe/Gates
[TV-PG]

Vegan Barbara Gates samples some Louisiana alligator; and in San Diego Diana Tregle cooks Cajun gumbo vegan-style for the Gates' friends and family. In Louisiana Barbara Gates decides to help ZZ with his homework. Unfortunately she gives ZZ the wrong information when it comes to making the word "monkey" plural. Meanwhile the Gates family decides to take Diana Tregle snorkeling. They hope she'll change her mind about eating animals. Instead the sight of fish make her hungry. The Gateses take Diana to a nearby restaurant that serves vegan food as well as seafood. The children grow upset when Diana orders fish. Diana goes to a store and buys some alligator meat so she can make gumbo for an upcoming family gathering. Diana then discovers a piece of paper taped to the inside of a kitchen cabinet. On the paper is written Barbara's belief that meat is not to be served in the house. Diana decides to go ahead and make the gumbo, but without the alligator meat. Meanwhile Barbara sends ZZ back to the bathroom several times when he fails to brush his teeth to her satisfaction. ZZ eventually begins to cry. Barbara thinks what ZZ needs is to be disciplined. Diego realizes ZZ isn't crying because of Barbara's demands; it's because he misses his mother. Diana resorts to experimentation when she cooks the vegan gumbo. Unfortunately everyone who tastes the gumbo thinks it's way too spicy. Later Diana tries explaining to the Gates' friends and family that she doesn't harm any of the alligators she owns. Then one of the Gates children walks into the living room carrying one of Diana's alligator heads. Diana explains that she also handles snakes, and when she encounters a poisonous one, she kills it, because a poisonous snake might bite and kill her son. One of the women at the gathering admits that although she's a vegan, she kills black widow spiders because they threaten her children. In Louisiana Barbara cooks some vegan food for an upcoming party. Barbara reacts when she realizes the family dog urinated in the kitchen. She pushes the dog towards the urine and swats it. Barbara reacts with disbelief when party guests show up an hour early. Most of the guests don't like the taste of Barbara's vegan food. Later Barbara shows the guests an animal rights video, hoping she can change some of their minds about killing animals. Barbara weeps as she watches the tape. Diego decides to return to the Cajun restaurant so ZZ can get some food that's non-vegan. Barbara speaks about her beliefs regarding the killing of animals. Then she says she'll have a taste of animal meat because she's open-minded. She admits the gator is tasty. The time comes for Barbara and Diana to say their final goodbyes to their host families. Barbara is disappointed when no one is around to see her off. However, the entire Gates family says goodbye to Diana. Later Barbara and Diana meet for the first time. Diana tells Barbara she made vegan gumbo for her family. Barbara decides to confront Diana with her observations on what's wrong with her family (Barbara had been keeping a journal). She tells Diana she thinks ZZ is depressed and needs to eat different food. Diana tells Barbara she's not being open-minded. Barbara and Diana's families are overjoyed when they're finally reunited. Then Barbara and Diana inform everyone about the show's twist: they got to decide how the $50,000 will be spent on their host family. ZZ worries that he might not get the mud boat he wanted because he misbehaved in front of Barbara. Diana reads Barbara's letter aloud. Money is allocated for charitable organizations, a vacation, engines for the family's tour boats, a new roof. and ZZ's mud boat. ZZ is overjoyed. Before Barbara reads Diana's letter, she tells the family they must be happy with Diana's decisions. Diana allocates some cash for Barbara's children, money for a vacation, ten-thousand dollars for Jason to plant an orchard on an adjacent lot, and money for a Jacuzzi. Barbara begins to cry, because she would have used the money differently. Then Barbara realizes Diana is giving her $20,000 to spend however she'd like. Barbara is pleased. Barbara tells her family that she ate alligator. Jim and the kids are disappointed.
