When someone says you are a part of the family in this show's sense they mean that you are going to be treated like their own kids. You do chores like the other kids. You are not there on vacation and you are not their guests for 5 days. You also must comply with their rules and if you don't then, like their own kids, you must suffer the consequences. This is to teach you responsibility for not only now but for the future and for when you leave the home permanently. Thank God these kids weren't as bad as some of the ones I've seen on this show.
THAT KID WOULDNT MAKE IT 5 MINS IN A KITCHEN, AND SCHOOL ISNT GOING TO TEACH YOU DETERMINATION WHAT SO EVER. SCHOOL WILL TEACH YOU TECHNIQUE AND HISTORY, AND POSSIBLY THE FINANCIAL PART OF IT, OTHER THAN THAT ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU GIVE IT. YOU ARE GOING TO WORK LONG HOT NIGHTS AND NOT GET OFF WORK UNTIL WELL AFTER YOUR FRIENDS HAVE COME HOME FROM THE BAR OR CLUB OR PARTY, YOUR GONNA HAVE HELL TRYING TO KEEP A SIGNIFICANT OTHER BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO PUT UP WITH YOUR LATE LONG HOURED SCHEDULE. YOU ARE GOING TO AVERAGE OVER 40-60HOURS A WEEK. IF YOU WANT TO OWN YOUR OWN PLACE, YOU MIGHT AS WELL SALE YOUR HOUSE AND MOVE INTO THE STORAGE ROOM BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO BE.
