Perhaps Mr. Rich has forgotten what country music is!!
As far as the finished video goes, it doesn't reflect the true performance she gave during the judging. Any one that didn't watch, type in Gone Country in the search box at the top of the page. Click on Gone Country 3, where you can see all the songs in the contest. Sheila E's live performance was truly the winner. I hope she does a country CD, because she can shine in ANY genre of music !!
To me, this is not truely country. It does not seem to be her type of music. And, no, I did not watch Gone Country. All I needed to see to make my mind up was this video.
I really like it.
I've been a Sheila E. fan 4 a long time (actually 25 years+) & I must say that she is the bomb. I've prayed that she would win the competition. "Thank U God!!!" I play this video all the time on a daily basis. Great Job, Sheila. I hope 2 jam with U soon with my timbales as well. U're the reason why I play drums 2 this day. I learned from the best, I learned from U. Thanks 4 teaching me how 2 play drums from a distance. Rayko a.k.a. R&B: "1 of the funkiest drummers & percussion players since Sheila E.!" Good old fashioned country music. I'm glad CMT is playing it!!!!!!!!
Sheila E. absolutely deserves to be the winner! John Rich was very wise in his decision making here. Sheila E. is no stranger to any stage and if any of you have ever seen this FIRE artist perform, you then understand why she is the winner. Sheila E. is absolutely one of the best, most ANOITED, most focused & professional performers EVER - a ball of passion that blazes when she hits the stage. Music is all up in it - and not just one genre of music. Her career in music is a testiment to that. She has a HUGE respect for all genres of music and TRUST - she's GONE COUNTRY for real because that's just the type of artist Sheila E. is. She came to win and LOOK AT MY BABY NOW! Congratulations Sheila E.! Yet again, your talent brings me so much joy. It's an honor to be a fan. YOU DELIVER!!!!
I have been a big Sheila E fan for many years and I have loved each transformation she has made. Sheila's talent can cross so many genres and bring many styles together. I enjoyed watching CMT's Gone Country and tuned in because of Sheila. I was delighted that she won. I respect country music and enjoy the talent of some of the country artists.
I really like this song Congrats Sheila
CONGRATULATIONS SHEILA E!!!!!!! I'm so happy you won!!! I love this song and video!!! You are an amazing musician! You have proven that time and time again.
John Rich is aware that every musical genre must evolve and change to embrace a univeral concept while still keeping it's integrity. Gospel, Rock, Jazz have all benefitted form the global diaspora to maintain their relevance. Country music has some of it well worn roots in blues, soul, folk and good old fashion story telling. The goal was to write a story that took you on a journey and infuse it music. Sheila ,an excellent musician was able to take a story and color it with music. She has a decidely pop/rock influence to it that only makes it papable to a wide demographic. In addition she also brings in a target audience that enjoys Jazz, Rock, Pop, Salsa, Latin Jazz, Funk, R & B to the country fold that may have given country music only a cursory listen but now may be more inclined to delve further. Sheila E. has also demonstrated that her own journey from Funk/Rock Goddess to Jazz Diva have broadened her own musical styles. Taylor Dane did a bang up job too. Sheila did add some gospel elements at the end of the song that but that was her perogative. Plus she is still sexy and can lay down those drums. I would like to see more percussion in country perhaps with Loretta Lynn or Reba Mac
John Rich understands marketing and Sheila brings talent, a solid work ethic, as well as possibly access to a market demographic who otherwise might not come into country. Last show's pick Iglesius was typical of John's out of the box approach. I think it is fair to say there were a decent number of people in the crew who put in a credible and marketable showing. George Clinton was someone I had hoped would do better in what he put out there. I guess it was too much of radical shift. There's out of the box and there's off the planet. Well CMT could get someone very Old School traditional country to front a show with the same premise only going after traditional execution. That would satisfy some of the people complaining, the only question would be how it would sell. Love him or hate him, John Rich sells it and has the bank account to prove it.
Sheila, I was Taylor's gal, but did admire your competitive spirit throughout the competition and this uplifting tune. It's not the 'country music I know, but it ain't BAAAAD, woman! I KNOW YOU WON, but I would simply LOVE it if CMT had full length performances of all the tunes from GC3. Whew, they all had merit to me!
Congratulations Sheila! Great song and I love this video. A little country and gospel. Very classy. I'm glad you won. Taylor Dayne had a good song also, but the finale performance is what decided it. Sheila poured her heart and soul into it. You could tell the difference. Good call John Rich. Sheila you're a fantastic artist and musician. Your fans can't wait for that country album to come out. You're the best!
Some of you purist need to get over yourselves. I think the entire cast did a good job I had a three way tie for first between Sheila, Mickey and Taylor. All of their songs were great. Sheila is a class act. She looks great and sounds great.
To each his own, I guess! I love Sheila E. and John Rich, they both ROCK! She is Beautiful, Blessed and Talented and He is a Bad Mutha, Shut yo Mouth. I love the song and the video and feel that they both go along with what John said he was looking for thru all the shows. Let's face it, they all had great songs, I look forward to a compilation CD soon. Best wishes to all, Peace and God Bless!!!
John Rich, you are a complete IDIOT!!!!!!! Sheila E????? She throws off her shoes and BANGS on a drum and you give her the award. Her vocals are horrendous and the song was the LEAST country of them all. Bad move. I gave the show another chance after the Iglesius fiasco, but no more. You are off my viewing list. TAYLOR DAYNE WAS THE TRUE WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT POWERFUL VOCALS AND A KILLER SONG. I WILL BE LOOKING FOR IT IN THE STORES!!!!!!!!!!!! Good bye John Rich and you can add Sheila E to your freak parade tour!
Sheila E, I Like it. It's Gospel, and to me, Gospel is Country. Listen to ACMR and this is a Song they should be playing. It's hard for people to see any Artist cross over to Country as you have a preconcieved notion that no matter what, they won't be Country. There were several Artists on the show that could have won, so I can see where John would have had a tough time choosing. I love Gospel Music and this was purely that. A "Glorious Train" in a Very Gospel tradition... Glad to see you win Sheila, and can't wait for Gone Country 4. Hmmmmm, I wonder who will be in that?
Sorry John and Shelia E I agree with the others on here your song was good not for country and your video sorry it wasn't country at all I don't know what ya'll was thinking it was more pop it had nothing to do with country.
I like this song. But I wouldn't buy this song at all as a country music fan. This is very far from country music. The beginning is pretty decent, but the end is COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. The end isn't country music in my eyes.
