OFFSTAGE: Keith Urban Moves Past Sad Songs

Sad songs make me happy. But it sounds like maybe they do not make Keith Urban happy. At least, not anymore.

For a while there, though, he could make me cry within the first few seconds of "You'll Think of Me," "But for the Grace of God," "Stupid Boy" and "Tonight I Wanna Cry." Now I think he's done with that and has progressed to something different.

"I've inherently written music that's full of more hope than anything. I'm not really interested in sad music that doesn't really say anything other than to just whine and complain," Urban told CMT Radio. "I'm more interested in somebody's struggle. But I like there to be some sort of sense of light somewhere in there, just a little bit of light to pull forward."
