'Gainesville': Catching Up With Kerryn

Her Side of the Story

If you've been keeping up with this season of Gainesville, you've done a lot of feeling for Kerryn. We cried with her through her break-up and moving out of her boyfriend's house. We felt flustered and confused with her while the whole Brian/Andreya situation spun out of control. And now, finally, we feel happy and excited with her as she gets closer with her new boy, Sebastian. She's so open and honest about everything going on in her life, you just can't help but feel like she's really your friend!

Lucky for us, we got the chance to chat with Kerryn about all of the craziness that has gone on this season, and how she keeps her head up and heart open through everything life throws at her.

So what are you up to these days?

I'm working 60 hours a week selling cars! I've been doing that since January.

When you're not working, you're definitely the cast member who has had the most interaction with the fans on social media. What has that been like for you?

I like interacting with fans mostly because I think a lot of them are confused because the show is so short. I actually really enjoy it. I like answering their questions! Even to the mean people, I just say something funny and they usually write back like "Oh my god, you're funny! I'm glad you didn't get mad!" I mean, what's the point of getting mad. So I definitely like it and I try to do it frequently.

And the fans love chatting with you! Speaking of the fans, they definitely got really in to the whole #TeamAndreya vs. #TeamKerryn thing. What was that experience like for you?

It sucked. It really sucked. I felt like I had a target on my back.

Your mantra through that whole situation, and really the whole season, has seemed to be to just "avoid the drama." Would you say that's always been your philosophy in these types of situations?

Definitely. I don't like drama. I don't like bull s***.

Do you have any advice for girls who are trying to keep the drama out of their lives?

You can always avoid drama. You just gotta walk away from it and excuse yourself from the situation. I'm always open to talking to people, if they want to confront me or I confront them to talk it out, but only if we do it in a casual manner. Once it gets out of hand, that's when I walk away from it.

On last week's episode, you and Austin butted heads over things with you and Sebastian, but you stood your ground. Was it hard to watch all of that play back on TV?

No, I actually laughed during the entire thing. It's just amusing to me because I rarely get mad, so when I do it's pretty entertaining to see. Plus I remember the night like it was yesterday, and how intoxicated Austin was, and how quickly it all blew over, so it was more funny to watch. I said some pretty stupid things, like that whole "I do me when I do me" thing. That's something I would never say! So it was more funny and stupid than it was anything else.

We read on a Facebook post you recently wrote that the breakup we saw you go through in the first couple of episodes happened because your boyfriend at the time made you choose between him and the show. How did you make that decision?

Well, like it was discussed on the show, he was going one direction with his life and I was going another direction. So even beside the show, we had things we were nit-picking each other about. Like I go to church and he doesn't, and at that time he had a career and I didn't. We butted heads about small things. And then the show came around, and like any man, he was worried he was going to lose me. So he hoped that if he asked me to chose, I would choose him. And me, selfishly, I choose the show, because I knew if the show did well what the future could hold for me. Then I was with Sebastian for 6 months, and we split up because he's so far away. After that, my boyfriend tried to reconnect with me. I thought, "hey, why not" because we only split up because of stupid reasons anyway. It's way different now. We have fun together, we get along, we both have careers, we share the same hobbies. We hunt together, we fish together, it's great now.

And lastly, what's your favorite part about being on the show?

I'd have to say that I've learned stuff about myself that I didn't know before. It's a great learning process to look back and see what I can change and see what I can't change.
