2022 CMT Music Awards: Little Big Town Pairs Mellow Groove With Heartbreak Lyrics on "Hell Yeah"
Little Big Town unveiled its new single under a faux starry sky at the 2022 CMT Music Awards tonight (Monday).
Written by Little Big Town members Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook with Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and songwriter/producer Corey Crowder, "Hell Yeah" combines a mellow groove with a lyrical twist about heartbreak.
The group, which also includes Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, stood on a neon riser over the band in front of a bucolic backdrop of a barn in a tree-lined field. The sky was blue and dotted with clouds, but over the song's chorus, the sun goes down to reveal a starry sky.
Sweet is the vocal lead on "Hell Yeah" and sings: Going through Hell, yeah| Going through Hell, yeah| You've moved on, and I'm still here in Hell, yeah.
"This song is a classic breakup song, flipped upside down," Sweet said in a statement. "It's pure feel-good vibes. We are so excited to premiere it on the CMT Music Awards, which has always been a home for us in releasing new music. Hell yeah!"
"Hell Yeah" is the first single Little Big Town has released in two years and is from their forthcoming 10th studio album.
