LISTEN: Walker Hayes Releases Tear-Jerking Track “Face In The Crowd”

Walker Hayes: “I was honored to be nominated for a CMA Award, but the acceptance speech I would’ve made dropped just now… it’s called ‘Face In The Crowd.’”

Walker Hayes was in the running for New Artist of the Year at the 56th Annual CMA Awards. Although the TikTok sensation did not score the prestigious accolade, he still shared his acceptance speech in his tribute track “Face In The Crowd.”

Following the star-studded evening, Hayes turned to social media to share a sweet message to his biggest cheerleader – his wife.

The small snippet of the unreleased song was paired with the heartwarming cover art featuring Hayes and Laney embracing.

“When my 15 minutes ends | And the world loves me a little less | I hope you know that you’re the only one | I was trying to impress | If I sold out Bryant-Denny | Made my sweet home so proud | All I ever cared about, all I ever cared about was your face in the crowd,” he sings.

The sentimental single comes on the heels of his cross-country collaboration “Y’all Life” with R&B artist Ciara. Hayes had a monumental year, as he quickly became one of the biggest names in country after his viral hit “Fancy Like.” The dance-worthy hit that gives a friendly nod to their ultimate date night at Applebee’s – reached No.1 on country radio, earned a GRAMMY Award and CMT Music Award nominations. Most recently, Hayes was honored alongside Kane Brown, Carly Pearce, Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Alan Jackson, and Lainey Wilson at CMT’s 2022 Artists of The Year Ceremony.

Hayes makes it clear in his latest single that every speech he makes and every song he sings is dedicated to the mother of his six children. Although Hayes has finally made it to the top of the country music genre, Laney witnessed him chase his music dream for nearly 20 years in the ten-year town. Hayes co-wrote the poignant lyrics Emily Falvey and Tofer Brown.

“I can’t say how grateful I am for the last year of my life. It changed a lot for me and my family, but at the end of the day, money doesn’t fix anything,” shared the hitmaker. “We’ve been doing this a long time, and we were happy when we were poor, too. We’re just lucky to have each other, and that’s really all that matters.”

The country crooner also released a moving music video, which captures their new reality and life in the spotlight. The clip begins with the singer-songwriter strumming his acoustic guitar around an empty venue, just hours before devoted fans rush through the doors. Halfway through, Laney appears and concert footage with his kids play. The clip ends with Hayes walking off stage into Laney’s arms.

The tear-jerking clip has already received positive praise. As many admired his buttery baritone vocals, others thanked Hayes for putting life into perspective.

“So perfect. You acknowledge your blessings all the time and do so well. Such a blessing and reminds us all what’s really important!” said a follower. “That’s what I wish we saw more of. Thank you for being a great example for my kids and others of how a man should love and respect his wife,” added another. “Love it!!!!” shared country duo Tigirlily.

Once Hayes finished the Joe Thibodeau - produced ballad, he began playing it on his Glad You’re Here arena tour. The critically acclaimed run is slated to wrap tomorrow night, Nov. 12, in Washington with Parmalee. For upcoming appearances, visit walkerhayes.com.
