WATCH: Jessie James Decker Makes “Dancing With The Stars” Debut With The Cha Cha

Jessie James Decker: “I have never been more nervous in my career.”

"Dancing With The Stars” is back for Season 31!

Jessie James Decker made her highly anticipated debut last night (Sept. 19) and proved that she’s more than a powerhouse vocalist, but a dancer.

A-listers from different areas of entertainment flocked to the legendary ballroom to fight for the mirrorball trophy.

The competition is already stiff, as contestants have brought their best moves and fierce mindsets to the pristine panel of judges – Len Goodman, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli.

The “Should Have Known Better” singer is slated to tackle the season with professional dancer Alan Bersten

The songstress went head-to-head with –  TikTok sensation Charli D’Amelio and her mother Heidi D’Amelio, drag queen Shangela, actress Selma Blair, comedian Wayne Brady, BRAVO personality Teresa Giudice, world-renowned model Joseph Baena, actress Cheryl Ladd, “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks, actor Daniel Durant, “Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino, “Bachelorette” Gabby Windey, Hollywood actor Jason Lewis, Trevor Donovan, and “GMA” anchor Sam Champion.

Co-hosts Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribeiro requested each duo to choose a song that makes them want to party. Decker decided on Lynyrd Skynyrd’s 1974 classic “Sweet Home Alabama,” to pay homage to her country roots. The fast-rising star sported a light denim ensemble encrusted with crystal fringe, as Bersten wore a matching western-inspired button-down. Decker revealed on her Instagram stories that a Jessica Simpson red carpet look inspired her retro hairstyle.

The two took the floor to execute the “cha-cha,” a dance style similar to the rumba or mambo. The jaw-dropping performance included a handful of dramatic dips, intricate partner work, and a two-step dance break. Following the dance number, the chart-topping artist received pointers on how to improve for the following weeks.

“Work on your legs, and get stronger leg action,” said Goodman. “Racier than the Kentucky Derby,” laughed Tonioli.

While Decker absorbed the constructive feedback, Hough applauded the line dancing section and how she looked comfortable under the spotlight.

Before receiving their overall total of 20 out of 40, Decker told Ribeiro how much the opportunity meant to her. Decker also shared the struggles of being a working mom and how she will manage three children during the demanding  “DWTS” schedule.

“I really want to be here,” she stressed. “But, I’m a mom first. It’s been hard, but I’m up for the challenge,” she added.

Following the memorable night, Decker turned to social media  (Sept. 20)  to express her gratitude and to talk about her experience.

“Wow this has been one of the craziest weeks of my life!!! Learning this dance in a week was such a challenge. I completely stepped out of my comfort zone and attempted to do something that scared the u know what out of me – and on live TV lol,” she wrote. “Woke up smiling this morning feeling so proud of overcoming my ear and seeing how many of y’all voted and had our backs! Even though I was the most nervous and anxious I have ever been I went out there and gave it my all and I’m proud of that. I couldn’t have done it without the best partner @alanbersten who’s already like fam to us!! Alan we got this!!”

She continued to explain that her NFL husband, Eric Decker and children in attendance calmed her nerves before her routine.

“It was so good to hug the kids and Eric and my parents before it started, it  put me at ease❤️,” she confessed. “We can’t thank you enough for all the love and support!! Here we go again… off to rehearse now for next week!!...and yes Elvis aka Forrest is HYPED.”

Decker was among the first five celebrities marked safe during the elimination round. The harsh critics saved the “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” star and partner Pasha Pashkov, leaving them to send Jason Lewis and Peta Murgatroyd home.

The premiere marked the first time “DWTS” aired live on Disney+. The next episode will be on Monday, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.
