Josh Thompson Returns With Second Album

'Turn It Up' Arrives Just in Time for Summer

For Josh Thompson, the release of his second album Turn It Up is a new journey and a long time coming. Arriving four years after his debut, Way Out Here, Thompson says the new project is perfectly named -- an album that's intended to get a crowd on its feet.

"I say it's Way Out Here on steroids because it really is beefed up," Thompson told CMT Hot 20 Countdown. "It's very lead-footed. It's got a lot of octane in it, you know? It's supposed to be a feel-good record -- something that you can put on, start to finish, and have a good time and party to."

With its early April launch, Turn it Up hits just as spring breakers and country music lovers everywhere are ready for summer to return. With that in mind, Thompson says there is an intentional common theme to many of the tracks.

"There might be some drinking on this record," he joked. "But, yeah, it is kind of a common theme for this record. But again, it's supposed to be about turning it up -- and not just the music but the good times -- and leaving all the negative stuff away for a bit.

"I love music that takes me someplace else, that gives me a melody that I can kind of get lost in the groove, but still says something with some meaning. I think it's a good time for a record like this. ... Country fans, I think they eat that stuff up."
