Brad Paisley Plays Until 3 a.m. in Chicago

He and Tourmates Follow Amphitheater Show With 1 a.m. Club Gig

Imagine being at a Brad Paisley concert and finding out that there'd be another Brad Paisley concert as soon as the first one ended. That's exactly what happened Saturday (May 31) night in Chicago. Actually, more like Sunday morning.

Right before Paisley took the stage at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in the south Chicago suburbs, he tweeted, "Sure could go for a drink and pizza at Joe's Bar tonight."

Joe's Bar is about 40 miles away from the amphitheater and holds a lot less fans. But it somehow all worked out. (It wasn't Paisley's first time at Joe's Bar. He'd played there as far back as 2009.)

After loading out from their first concert, Paisley and his openers -- Charlie Worsham, Randy Houser and Leah Turner -- made the journey north for concert No. 2. They played until closing time at 3:15 a.m. With Paisley dressed down for the after-party show in jeans, a T-shirt and a red ball cap instead of the white cowboy hat he'd worn during the first show, all four artists took the stage together to take turns on vocals for kind of a jam session/cover song party.

Backing them was a combination of players from all the bands, and the artists took the stage with Paisley acting as the host. The impromptu set list included "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Tulsa Time," "Workin' Man Blues," "Little Liza Jane," "Hoochie Coochie Man," "Wrapped Around," "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" and, of course, "Sweet Home Chicago."

Worsham told that the night was "what music is supposed to be."

"It was so exhilarating to be onstage with other artists with absolutely no plan whatsoever," he said of the two-hour set. "I bet we would've played another two hours if we didn't have to get to Kansas City the next day. The crowd was a perfect example of why country music fans are my favorite people on Planet Earth. They were loud and rowdy and didn't care what time it was."

Worsham's pre-dawn tweet when it was all over said it best: "That was the ultimate bar gig! @joesbarwith Brad, Randy, Leah, friends, pickers, etc. and REEEEEAALL REAL covers!!!"
