CMT Premiere: Emily Ann Roberts Proves A Liar Never Wins in New Video "Devil Wears Denim"

Emily Ann Roberts hopes the video for "Devil Wears Denim" gives viewers the pictures they had in their minds of this heartbreak story.

Emily Ann Roberts earned a runner-up spot on “The Voice” as part of Team Blake before she finished high school, and now the Knoxville, Tennessee, native is sharing the next step of her country music journey – a new video for her song “Devil Wears Denim.”

Roberts, one of CMT's Next Women of Country, wrote “Devil Wears Denim” with her producer Trent Willmon and Autumn McEntire. Leah Steiger directed the video.

“I’ve always been captivated by country music's way of telling a story,” Roberts said. “When I wrote this song with Autumn and Trent, I could see the video playing out in my mind. Working with Leah Steiger to capture the love, betrayal, heartbreak and confession was so inspiring. I hope it takes people on the journey I go on every time I sing the song.”

Lyrics include: No one has seen that cowboy since he disappeared| Maybe he just up and rode away| And they won't find a shovel for a million years| Daddy taught me how to get rid of a snake

Roberts recruited her “sweet friend” Lauren Mascitti to play the other woman in the video. The singer said Mascitti is “ an extremely talented artist and songwriter,” and having her in the clip is one of her favorite memories from filming it.

The first time Roberts saw the video for “Devil Wears Denim,” she got chills and explained the song is “spooky and mysterious,” and the video captured the vibe.

“This song tells a story without completely spelling everything out for you,” she said. “The elements of love, mystery, deception and betrayal that you feel as you listen are truly showcased in this video. It finally gives the listener the picture they had in their mind of this heartbreak story.”

The takeaway, she says, is: “A liar never wins.”
