I'm all for classic Scottish rock songs and good covers of them. But why would American Idol choose season seven winner David Cook doing an old Simple Minds song, "Don't You (Forget About Me)," to sing for the contestants' farewell, when Carrie Underwood's [mtvn_video_page id="78054"]"Don't Forget to Remember Me"[/mtvn_video_page] would have been perfect? Even if Cook was the one singing it, Underwood's sentiments about "I still feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be" and "Lord, I feel so small sometimes in this big ol' place" would have softened the blow to the contestants who are leaving the show. Her lyrics would send the message that Idol and America will not forget to remember you. And it's a lot more current and relevant and very well known. That Simple Minds song is 25 years old. Most of the contestants haven't even been alive that long. What do you think about the exit song choice?
