OFFSTAGE: Tate Stevens' Clay Walker Song Was His Best

CMT Community

How many country songs did Tate Stevens sing while he was in the running to win The X Factor? I counted 10. And I applaud him for pulling songs from the way-back files, like Garth Brooks' 1989 "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and Shania Twain's 1998 "From This Moment On." But the one Stevens loved performing the most from the show was a ballad that was a Top 5 single for Clay Walker in 2007. "My favorite performance, honestly, was with Little Big Town. That was a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun doing that," he said in a Q&A session with reporters after his big win. "But I think really my best performance probably was when I did 'Fall,' the Clay Walker song." Obviously, singing all those genuine country songs went over well with America, but Stevens wasn't sure what reaction he'd receive when he first got in line for his audition. "There were thousands of people, and I'm like, 'Oh, my God. I'm the only guy in a cowboy hat, and this is not probably going to be good for me,'" he recalled.
