OFFSTAGE: Tim McGraw Says Fans Drove 'Traffic'

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Tim McGraw would like to thank the fans. They are the ones, he believes, who made his latest album Emotional Traffic debut at No. 1 on Billboard's country chart. "The most beautiful thing about this No. 1 debut, over the others, is that it was driven by the fans and their eagerness to finally have this music in their hands," he said in a press release. "The fans don't care about the business side of things. ... They just want the artists they follow to keep putting out great songs, and I think we have delivered some of the best songs of my career on Emotional Traffic." And he is absolutely right. Despite his lengthy dispute with his former label, Curb Records, his fans just want McGraw music -- regardless of what label it comes from or how long they had to wait for it. McGraw also said, in a radio interview, that he's not afraid of a do-over in the studio. "Sometimes I know if I'm gonna go sing a song, I can spend all day in there and sing and, at the end of the day, listen back ... and not like anything I've done and have to start over the next day. But I've got to go do the best I can that day and wrap my mind around it in that way," he said. "If I'm successful most of the days, then the end result is gonna be success at the end of all of those things put together." End result of that end result? A debut in the top spot.
