Listen: Kelly Clarkson and Dolly Parton Remake "9 to 5"

Kelly Clarkson: "I hope y'all like what we did, but even if you don't, remember I got to sing a duet with the magical Dolly Parton."

It takes a lot of confidence to jump on a Dolly Parton classic, but when everyone's favorite butterfly asked Kelly Clarkson to join her on "9 to 5," Clarkson couldn't say no.

"I am so honored that Dolly asked me to reimagine this iconic song, '9 to 5,' with her!" Clarkson said in a statement. "She is so talented, an inspiration to all women, and one of the sweetest people you will ever meet!"

Parton explained that no one sings like Clarkson and that she makes any song come alive.

"I love her voice on '9 to 5,' and I am so proud I got to sing with her on it," Parton said. "I'm equally as proud of the wonderful arrangement and production by Shane McAnally."

Out now, the "9 to 5" remake features Clarkson in the lead vocalist role, with Parton providing background vocals, and is more low-key than the original enthusiastic version.

Popular songwriter/producer Shane McAnally spearheaded the re-imagination of the hit from 1980, and it debuted in the documentary "Still Working 9 to 5" in the spring. The documentary reunited the original "9 to 5" cast, including Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman. It made its world premiere at South By Southwest in March of 2022.

Earlier this year, Parton made a special appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, during which she teased the much-anticipated duet and praised Clarkson's vocals.

"I hope y'all like what we did, but even if you don't, remember I got to sing a duet with the magical Dolly Parton and now have bragging rights til the end of time!" Clarkson said in a statement.

The duet is the first time Parton and Clarkson have worked together.

"Still Working 9 to 5" examines 9 to 5 the impact the 1980 film had on the women's movement.

The documentary will be available through a limited theatrical release Sept.16-22 at Los Angeles' Noho Laemmle Theatre and New York City's Cinema Village in Manhattan.
