Actor, comedian and musician Steve Martin is among this year’s recipients of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award.

The announcement was made Wednesday (Aug. 12) in conjunction with the revelation of nominees for the 2015 IBMA Awards.

Balsam Range, Hot Rize, the Del McCoury Band, the Earls of Leicester and the Gibson Brothers are nominated for entertainer of the year for the awards to be presented Oct. 1 in Raleigh, N.C. The Gibson Brothers will host the ceremony that serves as the highlight of the IBMA’s World of Bluegrass event taking place Sept. 29-Oct. 3 in Raleigh.

Additionally, banjo pioneer Bill Keith and singer-guitarist Larry Sparks were announced Wednesday as the newest inductees into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame.

During the ‘70s, Martin regularly played banjo during his standup comedy performances. In 2009, he released his first all-music album, The Crow: New Songs for the Five String Banjo, and has since won five Grammys and three IBMA awards for his projects.

Joining Martin as recipients of the Distinguished Achievement Award are banjo player and record executive Alison Brown, banjo player, author and educator Murphy Henry and the late Beecher Ray Kirby, better known as Bashful Brother Oswald, a Dobro pioneer who was a longtime member of Roy Acuff’s Smoky Mountain Boys band.
