It's been nearly five years, since Dillon Carmichael first laid eyes on Shayla Whitson. The fast-rising star now has a new title for the blonde hair beauty he recognized in the front row of his hometown Kentucky show – wife.
The lovebirds tied the knot this past Saturday (Oct. 1) in Frankfort, Ky. The two exchanged vows at a picturesque distillery that resembled a castle with loved ones. The ceremony venue was decorated with breathtaking floral arrangements and an elegant wooden cross.
Whitson wore a white A-line wedding dress and borrowed a delicate lace cathedral veil from her college best friend to complete the eye-catching ensemble. She held onto her late grandfather's turquoise bolo tie for something blue, as the singer-songwriter sported a matching belt. In true country fashion, the two said "I do" in luxury cowboy boots.
Although the couple is a match made in heaven, Carmichael told PEOPLE that they were hesitant to date at first because of his vigorous touring schedule.
"We just got along so well from day one," he explained to the publication. "We were best friends first. My being on the road kept us from forming a romantic relationship in the beginning, but then we started dating during a stint of my being off the road. We just kept it going after that!
Shortly after Carmichael's longtime friend Phil O'Donnell served as their officiant, guests were encouraged to make their way to Austin City Saloon. The concert venue holds sentimental value, as it was the place where they first crossed paths in 2017.
The newlyweds made their reception their own with symbolic touches. Although Whitson had her grandfather's favorite snack [popcorn] being passed around as an appetizer, the country couple brought in a variety of food trucks for the main course. The mouthwatering options included pizza, tacos, and refreshing ice cream.
"We hired two food trucks — pizza and tacos," shared Whitson. "We don't love cake, so we hired a retro ice cream truck!"
To work off the meal, friends and family celebrated the happy couple on the dance floor. Carmichael asked the DJ to kindly pause mid-reception, so he could deliver an unreleased track he had written for his stunning bride.
Carmichael has been looking forward to their wedding day since he popped the question in February of 2021. Now the "Family Tree" singer is eager to create memories as husband and wife.
"I am excited to own a house with her and spend my time making it a home," said the country crooner. "She is excited to have the same last name and get to do life together as one."
Once Carmichael and his other half return from their honeymoon in Costa Rica, he plans on releasing a deluxe version of his critically acclaimed "Son Of A" record later this month. The promising new artist will also hit the road again starting Nov. 1 in Scranton, PA. For tickets and upcoming appearances, visit dilloncarmichael.com.
