Country music icon Shania Twain is set to partake in a tale as old as time – “Beauty And The Beast.”

The ABC two-hour animated and live-action special will air on Thursday, Dec. 15. The highly anticipated segment will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1991 Disney film and its Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. The beloved classic became the first-ever animated picture to earn the honor.

“Beauty And The Beast” did not receive the prestigious accolade but went on to collect a handful of awards. Shortly after the fairytale was released in theaters in 1991 and crushed box office sales –  it scored a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture, and “Beauty And The Beast” was praised as Best Original Song at the Academy Awards.

Critically acclaimed directors Hamish Hamilton and executive producer Jon M. Chu called in Twain to star as Mrs. Potts, a friendly tea kettle. The supporting character is well-known for her powerful pipes and as the mother to her son Chip.

The  “Waking Up Dreaming” artist is joining a star-studded cast – H.E.R. is slated to step in as Belle, Josh Groban will play the Beast,  Joshua Henry as Gaston, and Rita Moreno will serve as the narrator. Most recently, the network announced that world-renowned actors Martin Short [Lumiere], Rizwan Manji [LeFou], David Allen Grier [Cogsworth], and Jon Jon Briones [Maurice] will also appear.

Twain will work closely with Leo Abuelo Perry, a young thespian who will perform as Chip. The casting of Mrs. Potts comes shortly after the original voiceover actress, Angela Lansbury, died at age 96.

The hitmaker turned to social media Monday (Oct. 17) to share the career update and to express her enthusiasm.

“I  am unbelievably honored…and excited…and all of the emotions(!!) to announce that I will be joining the cast of #BeautyAndTheBeast30th to play the part of my favorite character – Mrs. Potts,” Twain wrote on Instagram. “And of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t pay tribute to the iconic Angela Lansbury, I mean she I.S. Mrs. Potts and the reason why this character is so beloved. To follow in the footsteps of such an icon is a huge honour, and I hope to do the part justice,” she added.

Members of the country community flocked to the comments to congratulate Twain for landing the role.

“She does it all 👑,” shared breakout artist Tiera. “OMG! Congratulations!! You are so deserving. I can’t wait to see you absolutely slay! Come on, Mrs. Shania Potts,” added a fan.

ABC’s “Beauty And The Best: A 30Th Celebration” comes on the heels of Disney’s record-breaking special of “The Little Mermaid.” The upcoming production presented by The Wonderful World of Disney will be taped in front of a live audience and will air Thursday, Dec  15 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
