OFFSTAGE: Taylor Swift Sings "Red Shirts, Khaki Pants" for Target

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

At first, I thought there were all kinds of irony in this. That in one week, Taylor Swift was in a front-row seat for the Rodarte fashion show in New York City on Tuesday (Sept. 13) and at a Target corporate event in Minneapolis on Thursday (Sept. 14). She could, of course, rock fashion from both the high-end and the mass-merchandise worlds. Then I remembered, this isn't irony. It's kismet. Because while Rodarte dresses are normally sold at places like Bergdorf Goodman in the four-digit range, they did have a Rodarte for Target line a couple years ago, when Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte) brought their "couture sensibility" to the rest of us in the $40-60 price range. Anyway, at the Fashion Week event, Swift was sitting with Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, to see the spring line of "fairy tale femininity." And then at the Target semi-annual managers meeting the next day, Swift appeared with a long list of celebs like Oprah Winfrey, Shaun White, James Taylor, Tony Bennett, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Willow Smith and Beyoncé. She performed her own song, "Red Shirts, Khaki Pants." It may not make it on country radio, but I'm sure it was a hit with Target managers.
