LISTEN: Morgan Evans Shares Heart-Wrenching Unreleased Song About His Divorce From Kelsea Ballerini

Morgan Evans places his heart on the line in new ballad, “How Long.”

Morgan Evans is grieving his divorce from ex-wife Kelsea Ballerini

The chart-topping artist debuted an unreleased track over the weekend (Sept. 25) at the CMC Rocks QLD Festival in his home country of Australia. In the midst of his high-energy set, Evans pulled out a new song titled “How Long,” a melancholy melody centered around his recent split from Ballerini.

The country crooner made his way to a grand piano center stage to deliver the ballad, which is destined to tug at heartstrings worldwide. Without addressing the topic ahead of the unexpected act, he jumped into the new song. The lyrics tend to cut deep as it conveys a narrative about a blindsided man wanting answers from a shattered relationship.

“How long have you been waiting to take our pictures down | How long have you been breaking, why am I just finding out?” sings Evans with emotion in his voice. “How many times did you tell me you loved me if it wasn’t true | I’m just wondering, how long has it been over for you?”

With the attention of his fans at his fingertips - Evans continued, “Someday I’ll be OK but right now I don’t know | You used to tell me everything and that’s what hurts the most | It would be easier if I hated you |But I still miss the person that I thought I knew.”

Following the performance – he quickly stood up, brushed a tear from beneath his eye, and gave festival-goers a small smile. Ballerini touched upon their sticky situation during a recent show (Sept. 24) at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

During the opening night of her highly anticipated HEARTFIRST TOUR,  the two-time GRAMMY nominee nonchalantly changed the lyrics to her recently released single “What I Have” to reflect her divorce from Evans.

The country-pop artist altered “I got a warm body in bed” to “I got my own body in bed.” Meanwhile, in “Get Over Yourself,” she delivered, “I’m the crazy B*tch that wrecked your life” in its place of, “I’m the crazy ex that wrecked your life.”

The minor change did not go unnoticed by her loyal fan base, as ticket-holders praised the songstress for her confidence and undeniable independence. The 29-year-old filed for divorce in late August and got candid about their rocky relationship with her followers on social media.

“Friends, I’ve always tried my best to share my life with you in a real and vulnerable way, while also protecting layers of my personal life as they unfold. This is now public record so I wanted you to hear from me directly that I am going through a divorce,” wrote Ballerini on social media. “This deeply difficult decision is the result of a journey of love, growth, and effort that ultimately has come to an end. It’s hard to find the words here…but I feel extremely grateful for the years of marriage to Morgan and hopeful for the next seasons,” she added.

Evans later broke his silence and issued his own statement on his personal Instagram story.

“I am very sad to confirm that after almost 5 years of marriage, Kelsea and I are parting ways,” said the vocalist. “I wish it were otherwise but sadly it is not.”

Their love is displayed in Ballerini’s fourth studio album “Subject To Change,” which dropped on Sept. 23. As the powerhouse promotes her 15-song collection on her 10-night only headlining run, Evans will complete his nationwide tour with Brad Paisley
