CMT reveals its latest reality-competition series with Thursday night's (Feb. 13) premiere of Tattoo Titans. It airs at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
Tattoo lover and model Jayme Foxx, who hosts the show, says the program features a weekly judges' panel and a $10,000 reward.
"The cool thing about Tattoo Titans is the judges," Foxx tells CMT Hot 20 Countdown. "Yes, they're hard on the artists, but they want the artists to actually learn and do better. They're not being hard to be cool. They're being hard to push people kind of like an older brother.
"So I think with Tattoo Titans, it's great because even if people don't win $10,000, they still walk away with a little bit extra in their craft."
With that winner's prize on the table, the pressure is on for the competitors. But celebrity tattoo artist and judge Ami James says the stakes are high for the judges, too.
"This was definitely a tough job for me to do," James admits. "It's one thing when you accept an apprentice and you're trying to help them out. You're trying to teach them the ropes, and you're trying to basically create a tattoo artist from nothing. All of a sudden [on the show], you get all of these people coming to you, and you have to give constructive criticism in order to help them."
Since each artist's canvas will be a real, live person, the judge's role is crucial.
"I think the way I look at it -- and the way I stop myself from holding things back -- is just saying, 'If you do care about tattoos, and you do care about the finished product of what these guys are going to put out, and you care about the client walking away with a good tattoo, it's my job to tell them exactly what needs to be done.'"
