LISTEN: Carly Pearce Kicks Off New Era With Unreleased Track “Trust Issues”
Carly Pearce has flipped to the next chapter of her music career.
On the heels of her sold-out headline debut at the Ryman Auditorium, the CMT Artists of the Year honoree has embarked on a new creative venture. Pearce stopped at Nashville’s legendary Listening Room Café to tease an unreleased track titled “Trust Issues.”
The vocalist turned to social media (Nov. 5) to ask her devoted fans their thoughts and opinions.
The acoustic guitar-driven melody conveys an awakening narrative about a protagonist finding true love and simply forgetting about the ex that gave her “Trust Issues.” Pearce has not confirmed the songwriters behind the razor-sharp lyrics or a release date. Although the preview was short, it displayed Pearce’s storytelling soul and astonishing vocal control.
“I look in your eyes & it’s almost like | My heart’s never been broke before | My only issue is how bad I miss you every time you walk out that door | To ever think I had trust issues | In a matter of one kiss you,” sings Pearce. “Got me turning one night into | Maybe the rest of my life | Haven’t even said ‘I love you’ | But I’m thinking that I want to | ‘Cause you’re making me forget who ever gave me these trust issues.”
The stripped-down song quickly went viral. “Trust Issues” garnered 23.3K likes and 176.3K views on TikTok alone. While many followers encouraged the hitmaker to release the post-breakup track sooner than later, one fan, in particular, received advice from Pearce.
“Love it❤️,” wrote Stephanie Quayle. “Release it!!!” said a follower. “I’m still living out 29:Written In Stone, but this gives me hope 💜,” declared another. “Give it some time, sister. I promise God has a plan,” Pearce responded.
Following the success of her Award-winning heartbreak album “29:Written In Stone,” the songstress is officially ready to turn the page and share where she is currently at in life – in love and thriving.
Pearce placed her heart on the line to pen the 15-song collection, as it chronicles her public divorce from singer-songwriter Michael Ray and personal grieving experience after her close friend and long-time producer Busbee died from brain cancer.
“I think this album has so much more good, than it did the pain in the end for me,” she exclusively told CMT. “I feel like it’s just the starting point for me of where I want to go, and it showed me what I want to do musically. Now, let’s go. Let’s go on all of the bit happier times.”
“Trust Issues” serves as the first taste of her new and uplifting era. It is unclear if the mystery lover in the track is based on her boyfriend, Riley King – a former MLB player for the Kansas City Royals.
The two got together just one year after Pearce split from her ex-husband in 2020. The reigning CMA and ACM Female Vocalist of the Year recently released the music video for her No.1 single “What He Didn’t Do.” The breathtaking visual marked the end of “29” and signified a “rebirth.”
Pearce is slated to perform at Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa in 2023 and will embark on Blake Shelton’s Back to the Honky Tonk Tour in February.
