Michelle Branch of The Wreckers Talks New Music, Blames Postpartum for Slapping Husband

Michelle Branch: “All the blocks were stacked in a way I didn’t have time to think about, really, what I was doing.”

Michelle Branch admits she slapped her musician husband, Patrick Carney, multiple times but she’s shown remorse and now she says the couple are trying to make their marriage work.

“They are not allegations,”Branch said on the “Tamron Hall Show.”“Violence, I don’t condone violence. I slapped my husband. Not the finest moment of my life.”

Branch formerly played in country duo The Wreckers. Her fourth solo studio LP “The Trouble with Fever,” which was co-produced by Carney, will be available tomorrow.

The singer says she smacked Carney for more than one reason. Branch recently had a baby and she blames being postpartum and having a few drinks at birthday party as reasons for her behavior.

“All the blocks were stacked in a way I didn’t have time to think about, really, what I was doing,” she told Hall. “It was one of those things where I was like, ‘Is this really happening? Did this really just happen?'”

Last month, Branch tweeted she found out her husband cheated on her while she was home with their 6-month-old daughter.

The police were called to the couple’s home near Nashville for a domestic disturbance, and Branch was arrested in the early hours of Aug. 11. She admitted she slapped Carney during an argument.

Rolling Stone reported a Davidson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson confirmed the arrest to the outlet and said Branch was released on $1,000 bail the same day.

The domestic assault case base been dropped and the couple suspended their divorce for six months to try and save their marriage.

“I mean, he’s the father of my children. I love him very much,” she told Yahoo Entertainment. “I think in a perfect world, we’ll figure out a way to make it work. I don’t know. It’s just still so fresh and so raw. But there’s a deep friendship at the basis of our relationship. So, hopefully that will still be there, regardless of what happens in our marriage.”

Branch and Carney have been married since 2019. They welcomed their first child in 2018 and their youngest was born in February of 2022.
