WATCH: Luke Bryan Checks Off “Bucket List” Moment With Lionel Richie At Mexico Music Festival

Luke Bryan tackles some of Lionel Richie’s biggest hits at Crash My Playa in Mexico.

Country sensation Luke Bryan always has a surprise up his sleeve. The five-time Entertainer of the Year recently wrapped up his weekend-long music festival Crash My Playa in Cancún, Mexico, with a bang.

Country Now previously reported that the platinum-selling artist stunned ticketholders with a special guest – Lionel Richie. The R&B legend joined his fellow “American Idol” judge on stage during his headlining set to deliver a string of songs.

Following a rowdy rendition of fan favorite “Down To One,” the outlet declared that Bryan introduced Richie to the stage.

“Are ya’ll ready for this? Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the stage, one of music’s biggest icons that have ever lived,” shouted Bryan to the boisterous crowd. “One of the greatest human beings ever, that’s ever lived and one of my best friends in the world. Give it up for Lionel Richie!”

Bryan sported a vibrant Hawaiian shirt, as Richie took the spotlight in his signature black get-up paired with a glistening button-up. Bryan pulled from Richie’s impressive catalog and kept fans on their toes with – “Brick House,” “Dancing on the Ceiling,” “All Night Long (All Night),” “Stuck On You,” and The Commodores’ “Easy (Like Sunday Morning).”

Before Richie returned backstage, Bryan expressed his endless gratitude and the two shared a tight embrace.

“I love you, thank you very much,” said the icon. “The newest member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Lionel Richie,” Bryan said to the audience.

Following the memorable affair, Bryan turned to social media (Jan. 23) to share a carousel of snapshots and to reminisce on the annual concert vacation.

“You just never know what is gonna happen night 4,” wrote Bryan. “Thanks to everyone who made it an epic night that I will never forget. @lionelrichie joining me onstage was a bucket list moment. What a pro!”

The post featured weekend highlights, from Bryan and Richie joining forces to Nashville newcomer Dylan Scott partying with Dustin Lynch. “American Idol” winner Chayce Beckham also made an appearance alongside Bryan to sing Kenny Chesney’s “When the Sun Goes Down.”

Fans in attendance rushed to the comments to praise the performance destined to go down in history.

“What a weekend 🔥🔥,” said Brian Kelley’s wife, Brittney. “The best last night of Crash My Playa that I have attended! @lionelrichie was so good!!!🔥🙌👏,” shared a frequent festival-goer.

Richie also gave his followers a glimpse of the festive event. The professional video showcased his captivating set with Bryan, fireworks over the ocean, and a bird’s eye view of the carefree concert.

“Just out here in Mexico with my brother @lukebryan 🔥@Crashmyplaya,” said the music powerhouse.

Although Bryan and Richie’s friendship blossomed on “American Idol,” their co-star relationship goes beyond the popular competition show. When the 72-year-old became a recipient of the Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize, the country crooner honored him with a live performance of 1980 hit “Lady” – a song Richie penned for the late legend, Kenny Rodgers.

“He’s the most creative interpreter of a love song,” Bryan told USA Today at the ceremony. “You didn’t put him in a category; he was just the world’s music.”

Crash My Playa was held at the AAA Four Diamond Awarded Moon Palace Cancún. The four-night festival included a handful of acts on private white sand beaches. The star-studded lineup included Lynch, Scott,  Chris Stapleton, Cole Swindell, Ashley McBryde, Brian Kelley, Carly Pearce, Chase Rice, DJ Rock, and Kendell Marvel.
