Owens and Brooks Announce Unveiling of Country Statues

Garth Brooks will join Country Music Hall of Fame member Buck Owens for the ceremonial unveiling of 10 bronze statues of influential country artists at Owens' Crystal Palace restaurant and nightclub in Bakersfield, Calif. Owens and Brooks made the announcement Tuesday (May 17) during a press conference in Las Vegas where they are attending Tuesday night's Academy of Country Music awards show. The artists to be honored are Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Owens and Brooks. Invitations have been also been extended to Jones, Haggard, Nelson and Strait to attend the ceremony on May 25 that is expected to be followed by musical performances. Montana-based artist Bill Rains is creating the statues that Owens referred to as "full size." Brooks joked, "Actually, we made sure the waists were smaller."
