Country Stars Prepare for Tuesday Night's CMT Music Awards

Host Bill Engvall Admits He's a Little Nervous Hosting the Live Telecast

After four days of the CMA Music Festival, Nashville took a short breather before moving back into high gear for Tuesday night's (June 16) CMT Music Awards show. Artist rehearsals have been underway since Sunday, and Toby Keith, Taylor Swift and Def Leppard were scheduled to conclude the schedule Tuesday afternoon.

Actor-comedian Bill Engvall hosts the telecast that begins at 8 p.m. ET/PT live from the Sommet Center. Prior to the show, CMT's Katie Cook and Lance Smith will host coverage of the red carpet at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Engvall says he feels at home when he's attending country music awards shows.

"The country fans really embrace me, and I think it's because of the family attitude that I put out there," he tells CMT Insider..

However, he also admits that there's a lot of pressure in hosting an awards show.

"I haven't been that nervous about a gig in a long time," he says. "You don't want to be that guy who sucks . ... 'Oh, remember the year when Engvall did it?'

"There's been a lot of great hosts in the past. You've got shoes to fill -- everybody from Dolly Parton to Hannah Montana."

In addition to the appearances by Keith, Swift and Def Leppard, the show will feature performances by Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley, Kellie Pickler, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, Sugarland and Keith Urban. Also, Jason Michael Carroll, the Carter Twins, Eric Church, the Eli Young Band, Gloriana and Joey & Rory will also appear on the Nationwide Insurance performance stage.

Among those presenting awards are Rodney Atkins, Tennessee Titans quarterback Kerry Collins, Billy Currington, ventriloquist Terry Fator (America's Got Talent), American Idol's Randy Jackson, Julianne Hough, Naomi Judd, Alison Krauss, model Karolina Kurkova, Martina McBride, Heidi Newfield, The O'Reilly Factor's Bill O'Reilly, actress-comedian Melissa Peterman, Kellie Pickler actor Luke Wilson and Lee Ann Womack. Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas, recent champions on Dancing With the Stars, will also present awards. Additional trophies will also be presented by Kid Rock, Ted Nugent and rap artist T-Pain.

Voting for the 2009 CMT Music Awards is now closed. The final nominees for video of the year will be announced at the beginning of Tuesday's live show. Fans in the Eastern and Central time zones can cast their votes for video of the year at CMT.com and via text on their Verizon Wireless phones.
