OFFSTAGE: Surfer Bethany Hamilton Is Obsessed With Carrie Underwood

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Bethany Hamilton, the real-life surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack, admitted to me that she's not a country music fan. "I'm more of a reggae girl," she told me on Sunday night's (April 3) red carpet at the ACM Awards. "But I'm obsessed with Carrie Underwood now. She's incredible. I'm always listening to her, and to 'Jesus, Take the Wheel.'" As for Soul Surfer, the new movie about Hamilton's story, she said, "Having Carrie play my friend Sarah Hill was such an honor for the both of us. We were both so stoked." Hamilton was on the carpet with AnnaSophia Robb, who plays her in the movie. And Robb actually does love country music and spends time with her friends at the Grizzly Rose honky-tonk in Denver. "It's like a line dancing place. And on Sundays, people 18 and under can come. We have so much fun. I learned the watermelon crawl and so many more. I don't know the names, but I know the steps," she told me.
