OFFSTAGE: Luke Bryan on Books, Zombies, Nicknames and Donuts

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

We definitely talked and talked about the new music. But when I had some time to chat with Luke Bryan this past weekend, I had some other random questions that I threw into the conversation, just for fun.

First job as a kid: "I worked at Rubo's grocery store in the summers when I was about 10. I was a stock boy and got $15 a day. As I grew up, I stayed there and did it all. Bagger, cashier, whatever they needed me to do."

Last good book he read: A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. "I never read To Kill a Mockingbird, so I'm gonna start on that next. It's

in my bunk. I got my iPad, and I'm trying to buy books on that, but I kind of like a book. At the end of my life, when I'm old, I want to have all these shelves full of books. So I'm just gonna do the book thing."

Current video game craze: "We're on Call of Duty now. We're zombie killing."

Best nicknames: His full name is Thomas Luther Bryan, but he says he usually goes by Lex or Governor -- or other ones he was too shy to tell me about.

Favorite food: "Do y'all have Tim Horton's? They make these donuts that are just massive. They make Krispy Kremes seem like nothing. There's no comparison, They're just better and cakier. They're a Canadian donut company, so you can't get 'em in Nashville."
