"Drink on It" is kind of like "The Chair." Both songs, Blake Shelton's and George Strait's, respectively, are essentially about hitting on girls in bars. In Shelton's, which is at No. 1 right now on Billboard's country singles chart, he is talking about rocket science, Jesus, politics, ex-boyfriends, whiskey and the cosmos. In Strait's, from 1985, he is talking about smoking, drinking, dancing and the band. Close enough, right? That was kind of Shelton's intent. "I always wished I had a song like that George Strait song, 'The Chair', 'cause it's basically just a guy trying to pick up a girl at a bar. That's why I fell in love with that song ['Drink On It'] when I heard it, outside of the melody being kind of a throwback to you know, Conway Twitty or Ronnie Milsap-sounding records, which I love, too," he said during a radio interview. "I just love the idea of the whole song being about a guy just trying to pick up a girl at the bar and saying everything she wants to hear." And I just love that Shelton can make a 27-year-old idea cool all over again.
