OFFSTAGE: How Toby Keith Is Bringing Kristen Bell Up to Speed on Country Music

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I’m sure there are a few things actress Kristen Bell could teach Toby Keith. But this week, he’s the one doing all the training. He fancies himself the country expert, even though his CMT Music Awards co-host grew up listening to her mom’s Patsy Cline and Garth Brooks CDs. However, Keith made Bell this Spotify playlist to show her the roots of the music he loves. It’s funny, though. There’s only one Toby Keith track in his whole list. And while I may not agree that the songs on this list will totally complete Bell’s country education, it sure makes me want to download a bunch of Crystal Gayle songs. Here is a sampling of Keith’s playlist:

“Truck Drivin’ Man,” Toby Keith
“Come Early Morning,” Don Williams “Wichita Jail,” the Charlie Daniels Band “Act Naturally,” Buck Owens “Everytime You Touch Me (I Get High),” Charlie Rich “You Never Miss a Real Good Thing (’Till He Says Goodbye),” Crystal Gayle
“Ride Me Down Easy,” Bobby Bare “Wichita Lineman,” Glen Campbell “Memory Maker,” Mel Tillis “If I Could Only Win Your Love,” Emmylou Harris “Greenback Dollar,” Hoyt Axton
