OFFSTAGE: Tim McGraw Was a Good Neighbor to Kenny Chesney

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Why Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw don't still live on the same street in Nashville is beyond me. It sounds like they were the best of neighbors. And that it was Faith Hill's cooking that lured Chesney in. "I'd go there to eat. Faith's a great cook. I could sit in my house when I got off the road on a Sunday afternoon and eat a bag of Doritos and watch football, or I could go over there and sit on Tim's couch and eat Faith's cooking," Chesney told People. "What would you do?" Then, as if that wasn't reason enough to stay put, Chesney also tells the story of how McGraw paid to make his pal's house pool-ready. "When I toured with Tim in 2001, I bought a house and wanted to put in a pool but had to build this wall into a hill to do it," he said. "I didn't want to spend the money. Anyway, McGraw paid for that wall. That was awfully nice of him." It's hard to picture a world where Chesney can't afford something -- or one where he eats Doritos, for that matter -- but this story does a good job of retracing the steps that made the two country stars such great friends.
