OFFSTAGE: Lucy Hale's Country Playlist

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Lucy Hale is no different than any other girl her age, especially when it comes to the country music she loves. "Along with every other girl in the world, every Taylor Swift song is just like, 'Oh, my God. I totally went through that.' Or, 'She said it exactly like I would've wanted to say it. So I relate to her. A lot," Hale said when I talked to her about her upcoming country album. The Pretty Little Liars star (she plays the deep, dark Aria Montgomery) actually has a long list of music she's loving right now. "I love Lady Antebellum. I thing their lyrics are so honest -- and sometimes really simple, but honest," she said. "Then again, I also love the songs I really don't relate to, like from Jason Aldean and Toby Keith and Alan Jackson. Their songs are about drinking beer and partying, and I can't relate to that, but they're fun to listen to." And no country playlist would be complete without some Carrie Underwood. "She is one of the best vocalists ever," Hale says.

Her only complaint is the lack of country radio in Los Angeles. "Out here in L.A., there are a lot of country fans hiding in the woodwork. But back home in Memphis, there's probably 10 country stations and one Top 40," she said. "Then out here in L.A., it's the opposite. It's just 105.1 [KKGO-FM]. That's the only country station I can find." She overcomes that lack of country by taking charge of the iPod when she and her Liars co-stars are in the hair and makeup trailer on the set. "I'm the country lover, obviously, so when it's my turn, that's what I play. I'm going to convert them all," she laughed.
