OFFSTAGE: Miranda Lambert Plays With Fireball

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

This was my takeaway from Miranda Lambert on Friday night (Oct. 26) after 20/20: All Access Nashville With Katie Couric: Fireball Whisky shots are good, happy songs are bad.

The Pistol Annies were on the show talking about their cinnamon whisky preshow ritual shots, the thrill of a lifetime when they played for Loretta Lynn ("My head almost popped off," said Holler Annie Angeleena Presley), and how Lambert came up with the band's name while she was soaking up the faux sun in a tanning bed.

But Lambert also talked candidly about how some of the band's songs aren't necessarily of the love song variety. "I'll have a happy song here and there, but when I'm going through a bad time, a happy song pisses me off," she admitted. "I'm like, 'Where's the cheatin' and drinkin' songs? I feel like crap today.'"
