OFFSTAGE: The 'Nashville' Sisters' Soundcheck Song

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I'm usually all about the music. Until it comes to Nashville. Then, I'm all about the drama. But after Wednesday's (April 3) episode, the music is all I can think about. Especially this one song. One of the plots happening in the episode was that Rayna's daughters Maddie and Daphne (sisters on the show and in real life) want to be singers. She, of course, knows they are very talented but does not want the music business to mess them up. But at a New York concert after-party, the Conrad girls ask their mom's co-headliner Juliette if her mom ever stood in her way. "You gotta go after what you want, and don't take no for an answer," she advises them. So finally, Rayna lets the girls get up on the arena stage and perform a song during her soundcheck. And man, did they ever. They did the Lumineers' 2012 rootsy folk hit "Ho Hey." I bought it on iTunes before they'd even finished singing. It was that good.

But if it's drama you wanted, then drama you got. There was plenty. Deacon and the vet started falling in love. Kimberly Williams Paisley's character showed up at Teddy's mansion in a raincoat, stilettos and a smile. Dante let Juliette see how good of a counselor he really is. And, there's a new cowboy in town named Will. (And if you're a hardcore fan of The O.C., you'll recognize him as Marissa Cooper's boyfriend Luke.) Welcome to the neighborhood, Will.
