Ralph Stanley Announces Farewell Tour

Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley has announced plans for his final tour which will conclude in December 2014. The 86-year-old singer and musician will be backed by his longtime band, the Clinch Mountain Boys, for the performances billed as Man of Constant Sorrow Tour: The Dr.'s Farewell. He was awarded an honorary doctorate of music degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn., in 1976. The start of the tour on Oct. 18 in Rocky Mount, N.C., coincides with his 67th anniversary as a professional performer. He began his career in 1946 with his older sibling Carter as a member of the Stanley Brothers. Following his brother's death in 1966, Ralph Stanley became a solo artist. He won a Grammy for best male country vocal performance for his recording of "O Death" in the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?. His farewell tour will include more than 80 shows at festivals, folk clubs and performing arts centers.
